We are excited to be expanding to St. Albert and are looking for an experienced and passionate Head Chef to join our leadership team and play a key role in launching and shaping our new location.

Job Overview

We are seeking a passionate, experienced, and hands-on Head Chef who thrives in a fast-paced restaurant environment and takes pride in building a strong culinary team.

As Head Chef, you will take ownership of the day-to-day kitchen operation, from food quality and consistency to team development, inventory management, food costs, and kitchen standards. You will work closely with management to maintain the Flame & Barrel culinary experience while bringing your own creativity and leadership to the kitchen.

This is an exciting opportunity for a chef who wants to be part of a new restaurant opening, build a strong team from the ground up, and grow with an expanding local restaurant brand.

Key Responsibilities

Lead, motivate, and develop the entire kitchen team while creating a positive, professional, and respectful workplace

⁠ Oversee all daily kitchen operations, including preparation, cooking, plating, and service execution

⁠ Maintain consistently high standards for food quality, presentation, portion control, and taste

⁠ Ensure the kitchen operates efficiently during busy service periods while maintaining speed and accuracy

⁠ Train and coach kitchen staff on recipes, cooking techniques, food safety, sanitation, and company standards

⁠ ⁠Assist with menu development and refinement, incorporating globally inspired flavours and creative culinary techniques

⁠ Maintain recipe consistency, portion control, and food quality across every service

⁠ Manage food inventory, ordering, receiving, storage, and proper product rotation

⁠ Monitor food costs, waste, portion sizes, and kitchen productivity

⁠ Maintain excellent sanitation, cleanliness, and organization throughout the kitchen

⁠ ⁠Ensure compliance with Alberta food safety, workplace health and safety, and sanitation requirements

⁠ Maintain and properly operate kitchen equipment and coordinate repairs when required

⁠ ⁠Work closely with the General Manager and leadership team to achieve operational and financial goals

⁠ Lead by example and remain actively involved on the line during service

What We’re Looking For

⁠ ⁠Proven experience as a Head Chef, Chef de Cuisine, Executive Chef, or Kitchen Manager in a high-volume restaurant

⁠ Strong leadership skills with the ability to recruit, train, coach, and motivate a diverse culinary team

⁠ ⁠Excellent knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety

⁠ Strong understanding of food costs, inventory management, ordering, portion control, and waste reduction

⁠ Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume restaurant environment

⁠ Strong organizational and time-management skills

⁠ Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities

⁠ High attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality

⁠ Passion for food, hospitality, and creating memorable guest experiences

⁠ Ability to remain calm, organized, and effective under pressure

⁠ ⁠Food safety certification is required

⁠ Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required

⁠ Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.
