Seeking: Unicorn
Have you ever been described as the perfect mix of a psychologist, daycare professional, stand-up comedian and computer scientist? If so, take a peek at what our pub is searching for.
Join Our Team as an Assistant General Manager!
Located in the heart of Ottawa’s Little Italy on Preston Street, we’re a lively Irish pub with a warm welcome for everyone from ages 0 to 100.
As a proud family-run establishment for over 30 years, we’ve mastered the art of good craic, great pints, and even better company.
Not sure what "craic" is? Sounds like you’ve got some important research to do—go on, look it up. Trust us, it’s the kind of knowledge that comes in handy around here!
What We Offer:
- Competitive Compensation & Perks - You’ll have the ability to be on salary as well as the opportunity to pick up bar shifts - we don’t tip pool!
- Paid Benefits - Health, wellness, and stability for our team members.
- Parking Spot - No more circling the block looking for parking!
- A Great Team - Work alongside passionate professionals in a supportive environment.
- Strong Leadership & Job Security - Family-operated for over 30 years, our business is built for the long haul.
- Training & Development - We invest in our people’s growth because your success is our success.
- Innovation & Open-Mindedness - We value fresh ideas and encourage creativity.
- Work-Life Balance - We know that happy employees make for a great workplace.
- In-House Security Team - A safe and secure environment for both our team and guests.
- A Culture of Candour & Respect - Your opinions matter, and we’re always open to new perspectives.
What We Expect From You:
- Proven Leadership Experience - At least 2 years in a management role in hospitality.
- Strong Operational & Financial Acumen - Ability to manage costs, drive sales, and optimize efficiency.
- Exceptional Team Management Skills - Lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
- Commitment to Guest Experience - Ensure every customer leaves with a great experience.
- Ability to Thrive in a Fast-Paced Environment - We’re a bustling, high-energy pub that requires adaptability and a hands-on approach.
- Problem-Solving Mindset - Ability to make smart decisions under pressure.
- Excellent Communication & Organizational Skills - Clarity, efficiency, and collaboration are key.
- Passion for Hospitality & Community Engagement - We are deeply rooted in our local community and want someone who shares our values.
- Grow and Develop in This Industry Long Term - We are looking for someone in it for the long run.
- Can Wear Many Hats & Multi-Task - Versatility is a must in our fast-paced environment.
- Good Communication Skills - Clear, effective, and professional interactions are essential.
- Amiable and Analytical - Strong computer skills; Maitre D experience is an asset while being able to remain friendly and sociable.
- Floor Presence - Be visible, engaged, and proactive in operations.
- Strong Bartending Skills - Hands-on knowledge and expertise behind the bar.
- Strong Leadership - Inspire, motivate, and uphold team morale.
- Will Uphold Our Standards - Maintain consistency and excellence in service.
- Flexible Schedule - Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Reliable Means of Transportation - Punctuality and dependability are key.
- De-escalation Skills - Handle conflicts calmly and professionally.
- Strong Moral Compass - Integrity and ethical decision-making in all aspects of the job.
- Personality - The ability to banter is the foundation of our business.
How do these assets apply to your daily responsibilities?Responsibilities:
- Strong Operational & Financial Acumen – You will be tasked with monitoring labour, making appropriate and timely staff cuts, watching liquor variances, and contributing ideas on ways to improve sales.
- Exceptional Team Management Skills – Leading a large team entails establishing clear communication channels, effectively delegating tasks, fostering collaboration, providing constructive feedback, managing conflicts, actively problem-solving, setting clear goals, empowering team members, and leading by example to ensure everyone is working towards the same objectives and contributing to the team's success.
- Commitment to Guest Experience – The guest is the reason we have the privilege of keeping our doors open; all decision-making must consider their experience.
- Problem-Solving Mindset – In this industry, anything can happen and many times all at once. You must be able to think on your feet and be sure that your solutions are realistically executable by your team.
- Can Wear Many Hats & Multi-Task – To quote Bruce Lee, you must “be like water.” No two days are the same in the restaurant industry. One day you are bartending, the next you are an event planner and the next you are a plumber. You must be open to being adaptable and flexible in the face of change.
- Good Communication Skills – Clear, effective, and professional interactions are essential. With such a large team, the "game of telephone" can get out of hand. Clear communication is key to ensuring everyone is on the same page. This may translate to communicating new procedures, delivering disciplinary corrections, or conducting daily pre-shift meetings.
- Analytical – Strong computer skills; Maitre D experience is an asset. You will need to be comfortable using spreadsheets, our point-of-sale systems, reservation and event management apps, and staff scheduling tools.
- Amiable – You’re friendly, supportive, and relationship-focused.
- De-escalation Skills – In the hospitality industry, tensions can run high, whether it be between staff members or guests. It is your responsibility to always be a fair and neutral party, there to hear issues and come to an objective solution.
If you've made it this far, impressive! You might be thinking, "Wow, they ask for a lot," and you'd be right. But we also give just as much in return.
What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to developing our team-empowering them to grow and refining their skills.
Not sure if you’re the perfect fit? If you bring dedication and a willingness to learn, we’ll make it our mission to help you grow and reach your full potential. Passion goes a long way, let’s see what we can build together!
