Job Overview

We are a private family seeking reliable, caring PSWs / caregivers for an elderly Indo-Canadian couple in their 80s in their condo at 585 Bloor St E (near Sherbourne subway). Daytime care is already covered. We are building a small, consistent team for awake overnight shifts every night and weekend day shifts. Please tell us which nights and weekend days you can commit to.

Shifts

  • Awake overnight shifts, 7 nights a week, approx. 7:30 PM to 7:30 AM (you must stay awake and alert)
  • Weekend day shifts, Saturday and Sunday, approx. 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM
  • Part-time or full-time; several people will share the schedule

Duties

  • Fall prevention: overnight bathroom assists, walker support, safe transfers
  • Reminders for medications and eye drops, and reminders to wear glasses
  • Personal care, toileting, grooming and dressing
  • Light meal preparation, dishes and tidying
  • Gentle exercise, walks and companionship (weekends)
  • Calm, patient support for an elderly woman recovering from a stroke, with memory and vision problems
  • Report any changes or concerns to the family

Requirements

  • PSW certificate, or RPN / nursing background
  • Canadian experience caring for seniors (home care, retirement or long-term care)
  • Comfortable staying fully awake through overnight shifts
  • Dementia and stroke experience is a strong asset
  • References and a Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Reliable, punctual, compassionate and patient
  • Living in or near downtown Toronto preferred

Pay: $26.00 per hour, a premium rate for overnight and weekend shifts.
