Job Summary

The Assistant Controller supports the financial operations of Dakota Dunes Resort by overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, internal controls, and operational analysis. Working closely with the Director of Finance and resort management team, this role provides accurate financial insights, supports strategic decision-making, and ensures effective financial practices across hotel, golf, spa, retail, and food & beverage operations.


Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation, review, and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Lead and coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to support business decisions.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes.
  • Monitor key financial performance indicators across hotel, golf, spa, retail, and food & beverage operations.
  • Prepare financial reports and presentations for leadership review.

Accounting Operations & Controls

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue accounting, and general ledger activities.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reconciliation of bank accounts, balance sheet accounts, and financial records.
  • Maintain and enhance internal controls, accounting procedures, and financial processes.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Support external audit processes, tax filings, and other compliance activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiencies, and reporting accuracy.

Resort Operations & Business Support

  • Partner with department leaders to improve financial performance and operational efficiencies.
  • Provide financial guidance and analysis to support decision-making across resort departments.
  • Monitor departmental revenues, expenses, and profitability while identifying opportunities for cost management and revenue improvement.
  • Assist managers with budget development, financial reporting, and performance analysis.
  • Develop a strong understanding of resort operations to provide meaningful financial support and recommendations.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Supervise, coach, and develop accounting team members to achieve departmental goals and service excellence.
  • Promote a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing finance culture.
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, training, performance management, and employee development initiatives.
  • Encourage continuous improvement through process optimization and best practices.
  • Provide leadership coverage and support to the Controller and Finance department as required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience required.
  • Experience within hospitality, hotel, resort, golf, gaming, or other service-based industries is considered a strong asset.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, internal controls, and accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with financial management/accounting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.
