Café All-Rounder (Kitchen Focus)

Compensation: $16-$18/hr depending on experience. Plus tips: Range: $3-8/hr

Availability: 1-2 week days plus 1 weekend day

Apprentice Café is a chef-driven, from-scratch café built around care, consistency, and craft. Everything we serve is made in-house, with close attention to detail and process.

We are looking for a part-time café all-rounder with a strong kitchen, baking, and prep focus, who is also comfortable supporting barista and front-of-house service during busy periods.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with their hands, values doing things properly, and takes pride in contributing to a small, focused team.

The Reality of the Role:
This job can be busy and demanding. Apprentice Café is a small team, so everyone helps everywhere. You should be comfortable with:

• Physical Stamina: Standing on your feet for the duration of your shift and working with urgency during rushes.
• Agility: Pivoting smoothly between kitchen prep, baking, dishes, and front-counter service as the flow of the day demands.
• Precision through repetition: Executing daily prep and baking tasks to the exact same high standard every single time.
• Direct, constructive coaching: We communicate clearly and directly in the moment so we can all get better.
• Autonomy: Taking ownership of your station and working independently once trained.

If you are mainly looking for a relaxed café vibe, this probably is not the right fit. If you enjoy learning, moving with purpose, and being part of a serious small team, it may be a strong fit.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist with daily kitchen production, including:
• Baking bread, loaves, cookies, and pastries
• Preparing and churning house-made ice cream
• Ingredient prep for breakfast sandwiches and café menu items
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety
• Support barista and front-of-house service during peak hours
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment with many moving pieces
• Communicate clearly and take ownership of tasks without constant direction

Ideal Candidate

• Available to work weekends
• Culinary, baking, pastry, or hospitality training (an asset)
• Previous café, bakery, or kitchen experience (an asset)
• Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team
• Detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and dependable
• Genuinely interested in food, baking, and learning across disciplines
