About Us

FoodTym African Cuisines is a growing restaurant in Saint John specializing in authentic West African and Ghanaian dishes. We are expanding our menu and seeking a highly skilled Chef with deep knowledge of traditional West African cooking techniques, ingredients, and flavor profiles.

Key Responsibilities÷

Prepare and cook authentic West African dishes including jollof rice, waakye, banku, fufu, egusi soup,kenkey,tuo zaafi,werewere,apapransa,suya, kelewele, and other regional specialties .

Develop, refine, and standardize traditional Ghanaian recipes for dine‑in, takeout, and catering.

Train kitchen staff in West African cooking methods, spice blending, and preparation techniques.

Maintain inventory of African spices, specialty ingredients, and imported products.

Ensure quality, consistency, and cultural authenticity in all dishes.

Supervise kitchen staff and maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment.

Estimate food costs, manage inventory, and minimize waste .

Prepare meals for customers with allergies or dietary restrictions.

Participate in menu development and seasonal specials.

Requirements

3–5 years of experience preparing West African / Ghanaian cuisine.

Proven ability to cook a wide range of traditional dishes.

Strong knowledge of African spices, ingredients, and preparation techniques.

Experience training or supervising kitchen staff .

Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment

Safe Food Handling Certificate (or willingness to obtain)

Secondary school education or equivalent experience

Assets (Not Required) Experience working in a commercial kitchen in Africa or internationally

Experience developing menus or standardizing recipes

Knowledge of food costing and inventory management

Work Conditions

Fast‑paced kitchen environment.

Standing for extended periods.

Weekend availability required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $19.00 per hour
