Great place to learn how to put in an honest day's work.

Work shifts here are varied which is good if you are looking for extra cash. I personally worked nearly every type of shift and I prefer 6am to 3pm which gives you a full day's pay with time left to enjoy it. If you only work casually it allows for a great work life balance but working full time hours as a part timer can exhaust you after a while.
You begin at minimum with normally no exceptions (except for age, DIRECT past experience). Pay increases at 500 hours in increments of normally 10 cents. Max pay is around $14 an hour as a part timer. There are no direct benefits as a a part time worker so if you expect any, look elsewhere.
There is also relatively no advancement for part time employees. Your responsibilities will increase but your pay will not. I personally am frequently responsible for the training of new clerks and managing them once the manager has gone home at 5pm. I have not seen any pay raise and there is no effective way to petition for one. What little linear advancement there is goes as follows,
Part time -> Full Time Clerk -> Assistant Dept Manager -> Dept Manager -> Store Manager. Most do not make it beyond Assistant Manager.
Management from my experience is very cultured and being a Atlantic Canadian I like that the company's managers often have the same tough no nonsense, yet funny spirit that the region offers.
The job is often seen under-appreciated in the local communities and if you work it past the age of 18 whether not you do it for extra cash while in school or not; you often find yourself dealing with people who will judge you for it asking why you are not in school.
No benefits for part time workers, pay raises are difficult
