The Opportunity:

We are seeking passionate individuals to join our team as Foster Caregivers - Licensed Support Home Operators in the Edmonton, Alberta area. We are seeking energetic individuals who have completed SAFE and HAR licensing through the Government of Alberta to provide compassionate foster care. As a primary caregiver in your structured home, you will play a pivotal role in guiding youth towards family reunification. Fost Caregivers - Licensed Support Home Operators are required to provide 24/7 supervision to the child/youth in their care. One Caregiver is required to stay home with the child/youth.

Your Day to Day:

  • Help create and implement individual treatment plans
  • Daily review/documentation (written reports outlining treatment progress and regular observational notes, logs and/or reports)
  • Regular consultation and collaboration with supervisors/clinical team
  • Create, design, and support age-appropriate daily activities
  • Initiate, organize, monitors and actively participate in group activities (special outings, concerts, sports, dances, party games, crafts, camping, music, etc.) as part of treatment plan
  • Teach, support, and assist youth in acquiring appropriate skills relating to daily chores, routines, and personal hygiene
  • Escort youth to medical, dental, and optical appointments
  • Advocate and actively build a therapeutic relationship with youth (and family) through interactive play, activities, and personal interactions
  • Provide opportunities for youth to focus on developing new skills based on their needs
  • Support youth through crisis utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Interventions (TCI)
  • Maintain therapeutic approach to behaviour support and explain behavioural expectations, outcomes, and impacts to youth

What You Bring:

  • An abundance of love to give and an overwhelming compassion to impact a child's life forever
  • Licensed to provide foster care for a child in Alberta
  • Willing to provide foster care for a child/youth inside your own home between the ages of 8 - 17 years old
  • Knowledge of mental wellness practices and the processes/procedures involved in providing effective home care
  • Proficiency in the English language, with the ability to comprehend instructions and communicate in a clear and logical manner
  • Build and maintain cooperative and constructive relationships by recognizing and understanding emotions and handling situations with empathy
  • Experience providing direct care to youth with developmental disabilities and/or mental health concerns
  • Experience with complex children and youth with high behavioural needs and significant trauma
  • Knowledge of Non-Violent Crisis Intervention de-escalation techniques
  • Indigenous families are encouraged to apply

Minimum Base Level Requirements:

  • Physical wellness and mental health awareness to handle care plan daily exercise routine
  • High capacity for managing stressful situations
  • All persons 18 years and older living in the home must provide:
    • Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check obtained within the last 6 months
    • Intervention Record Check obtained from Children Services within the last 6 months
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License
  • Alberta 10-year Driver's Abstract (10 years driving experience is not required)
  • Alberta auto insurance with $2-million liability coverage
  • Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level C + AED (two day in person training completed)
  • Your own reliable four door vehicle to transport clients in
  • Adequate level of home insurance
  • You are financially stable, over the age of 21, and legally authorized to work in Canada
  • No other children/youth living in the home, and you are not providing any other forms of care to CarePros clients or other agencies
  • Able to support client(s) on a full-time basis
  • Able to live with client(s) providing them with a safe, comfortable, and suitably furnished bedroom
  • Able to provide proof of current address
