Company Description:

We are a field services business providing millwright and field machining services to a range of industries including Oil & Gas, Mining, Power Generation, Pulp & Paper, Food, and Steelmaking, in both Western Canada and Internationally. Founded in 2012, the company is equally owned by 5 ticketed tradespeople who are active in the business and with whom the successful candidate will work together. Key Function:

As a Millwright, your primary duty will be to install, inspect, adjust and repair mechanical equipment in compliance with relevant safety regulations. At OCTO Mechanical Inc., we do not operate on a compressed workweek, so you will be paid for any overtime hours worked without having to first accumulate 40 regular hours of work.

- Monday to Friday – First 8 hours are regular time

- Monday to Friday – Next 4 hours are 1.5x

- Monday to Friday – Remaining hours are 2x

- Saturday – First 4 hours are 1.5x

- Saturday – Remaining hours are 2x

- Sunday and Stat – All 2x

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Complete detailed Health & Safety paperwork such as Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHAs), Personal Protective Equipment inspections (PPEs), vehicle, trailer, tool inspections and Focus Observation Cards (FOCs);
  • Conduct mechanical condition inspections as required with quality control witness, completion of associated paperwork and reporting of all findings to appropriate management;
  • Responsible for performing a various spectrum of tasks such as:
  • Lube oil flushes and fills;
  • Motor/pump, turbine, compressor, gear box and steam turbine laser alignments and installation;
  • Pipe strain measurements and adjustments;
  • Rigging and hoisting;
  • Base/skid levelling;
  • Grouting;
  • Mechanical seal/bearings removal and/or installation;
  • Temperature sampling of equipment;
  • Piping installation;
  • Flange torquing;
  • Stud removal;
  • Obtain and use specialized tooling to assemble, disassemble and repair industrial machinery while adhering to all safety procedures and regulations;
  • Read and interpret blueprints, manuals and detailed drawings related to specific machinery or equipment and ensure all work is completed to specified industry standards;
  • Attend and participate in daily and monthly Health & Safety meetings;
  • Assist Field Machinists in conducting field machining operations as required;
  • Collaborate with other trades in completing various mechanical scope;
  • Conduct work in areas in which specialized training is required such as confined spaces and heights;
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment;
  • Various other tasks as required.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Credentials/Professional Registration

  • Journeyman Millwright certification from accredited post-secondary institution (or working towards);
  • Mandatory safety tickets - H2S Alive, CSTS 2020, WHMIS 2015, Standard First Level C CPR & AED as well as Common Safety Orientation or BSO;
  • Safety tickets considered an asset – Confined Space Entry, Fall Protection, Aerial Work Platform & Overhead Crane
  • Additional education considered an asset: Journeyman Machinist certification.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in a Millwright or Apprentice Millwright position.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Intermediate knowledge of all Office 365 functions (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher etc.);
  • Advanced level of reading and understanding required such as specialized and technical manuals, detailed operating and procedure manuals, safety documentation, blueprints, drawings and diagrams;
  • Advanced level of mathematical skills required such as formulas, measurements and calculations on performance and specifications;
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently or in a team dynamic;
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a strong focus on safety;
  • Ability to effectively organize and prioritize a variety of tasks and duties and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Hold a strong knowledge of API and/or recommended installation procedures;
  • Manual dexterity, motor coordination and physical strength.
