SouthWest Ontario - Entitled Management
Project Manager (Ancien employé) –  Ontario14 août 2019
SELF ENTITLED corporate environment with little high profile projects to support the self claim of excellence.

SW office management is poor due to lack of training and basic Human Resource skills.

Disappointing ethical standards at an office manager level (e.g. hiring family members with no related education).

Very HIGH FOCUS ON UTILIZATION / billable hours. Management required weekly projections on estimated utilization and would often walk from desk to desk to inquire.

NO MARKETING OF SERVICES completed by the company to support day to day work/projects. Employees need to market their service/discipline and the company independently, find their own work, write proposals, conduct the work, write reports all while remaining to be ~75% billable to clients. Must also cross-sell other disciplines and when successful no acknowledgment is given.

NO FOCUS ON EMPLOYEE PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT. Management provided basic corporate training but very little attention is given to workshops, seminars, certifications, courses. Opportunities for growth and advancement are minimal to none.

Professional Development Reviews are conducted at 6 month and 1 year intervals to fulfill corporate requirements. Minimal raises are given annually (sometimes) ranging from 0% to 4%.

Poor Management
Project Engineer (Ancien employé) –  St. John's, NL12 août 2019
Worked for wood for several years in their st John's office. The people are great to work with. Two complaints would be:
1)Salary and benefits subpar
2)poor management. I can only speak for the one office I worked in, but the management there are definitely only in it for themselves. No vision or Outlook. Positions are handed to their buddies. The office has zero career development and loyal employee s are constantly overlooked. Itherw is hardly any female representation in management at all.. office management is dated.

Poping lead (Ancien employé) –  Newfoundland22 mai 2019
I loved working for Wood Group. The page was great and the schedule was second to none. By far the sadest contractor that I've ever worked for. They could not put a price tag on safety. Management was always approachable friendly and would definitely recommend them as a workplace.

Management chaos after the Amec Foster Wheeler merger.
An unmotivated employee (Employé actuel) –  Calgary, AB6 mars 2019
Since the AFW merger, the management is all over the place. UK leadership sends out the shareholder friendly messages, but local management does something else. No longer trying to push any boundaries, only to compete with the small players.

Good starting place
Senior Human Resources Systems Administrator (Employé actuel) –  Oakville, ON3 février 2019
This is a good place to start any career.
- Supervisors and managers are really helpful and want to see you grow and develop, however there is a limit to what they can really do as the company is highly bureaucratic with limited room for growth.
- The E&IS division practical acts like a "state within a state"
- Great corporate culture and values, management and execs just need to live those values
Points positifs
Good place to start
Points négatifs
Long Hours, lack of development opportunities, IT outsourced

Bureaucratic and full of partisanship
Project Manager (Employé actuel) –  Calgary, AB16 janvier 2019
Diverse projects exist but you get stuck and it is difficult to move across functions. Management's talk is not followed by action. Opportunities to move forward are limited, especially if you are from a minority groups.

Worst Employer Ever
Project Administrator (Ancien employé) –  Vancouver, BC4 janvier 2019
Loved the people I worked with but could not stand the company. Pay and benefits were good but thats about it. Ineffective, unethical management. Make sure their boys club is taken care of at the expense of the employees. "Employees are our greatest asset" is the talk but not the walk. Hundreds let go but all mangers still there.

Unorganized, frantic, directionless work environment. No work life balance whatsoever. Doesn't matter how hard you work or the job that you do if not one of the chosen or favourites your head is on the chopping block. Everyone I worked with was miserable. Avoid at all costs
Points positifs
Pay, benefits.
Points négatifs
Long hours, no opportunity for advancement, boys club mentality of management.

Poor management and backstabbing politics amoung managers. Excellent benefits.
Prefer not to say (Ancien employé) –  Ontario15 octobre 2018
Management are competitive with each other and staff are given conflicting directions. No performance evaluations are ever done, Project Director fires and and rehires engineers/specialists for 'poor performance' only after projects receive approval by client and specialized work is completed. .

Management is lacking in clear direction of expectations and point fingers at subordinates when things don't go as they planned but take credit for all positive outcomes. Projects are underbid so Project Manager cut corners to save money, bypass regulations and guidelines.risking compliance warnings and orders..

Company has excellent mandatory training, competitive pay and benefits. Use company as a stepping stone as they dismiss loyalty but think nothing of minimizing your efforts.

One day your their star employee, the next they dismiss you and say your performance was poor. They chew up and spit people out.

They like to hire new grads. Anyone with their own mind is let go.

Great place to work
Senior Process Engineer (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB4 septembre 2018
Definitely a great place to work.Open office and a welcoming environment.
A typical day will involve some meetings, checking vendor or supplier documents, reviewing and approving design calcs, phone cals and emails.
I gained significant experiences in oil field production and processing facilities design and operation.
Great interaction and teamwork.
Dealing with vendors who were overseas and then communication was mainly via emails.
Procedures and standards were quite easy to follow.
Points positifs
Wide range of services to different sectors of the industry
Points négatifs
Relatively new in Alberta compared to its competitors
