Fast paced, easy work

The store is always busy, so they are always calling you up to cash registers, and you can’t always get work done on the floor. Other than that, the work is easy

Standard job

Not a bad job, standard retail gig which can be boring at times. Found the supervisors helpful and other colleagues fun, but the work can be a grind at times.

Good mangement, flexible hours

Management was friendly and willing to help you with any question, never felt unsupported. Customers could be pushy and rude when we had to change some of our store policies, but thats retail. Chance to move up to full-time and later become a supervisor or manager.

Horrible Experience

Management at the Signal Hill Location did not help you in any shape or form, they spent majority of their time in the office, and would refuse to take the time to help the store. Hours were horrible, and the pay did not match up to the effort expected. Overall, a bad experience for mental health and well being. I would not recommend working here at Ll

Loved the job but had to BEG for hours

Theyre always understaffed but yet they dont have hours. My shifts would be cut or taken away if the bussiness didn't make that much money that week. That's really unfair. They only seem to care about theyr bussiness and co ordinators. I worked hard and begged for hours...I got nowhere so I had to leave.

Points positifs

I loved the job

Points négatifs

They wouldn't give hours

Productive

A typical day would be fairly long and occasionally exciting. Workplace culture was fairly standard and the dress code was business casual which was slightly difficult due to being in school.

Points positifs

Occasional free lunches

Points négatifs

Fairly low employee discount

Fun and fast paced workplace

Really fun overall, as the people there are very nice and friendly. There can scheduling issues as there may not be that many shifts available within the week.

Fun place to work

It is a good starting point. The job itself is not mentally draining and can be fun way to earn some extra income. I believe it really depends on the management team too.

Northland- They Don’t Give Many Hours To Current Employees, But Keep Hiring. They Want Open Availability.

I’m writing a portion of this review in regards to my experience with the Northland location. Every store can operate differently, take what I say with a grain of salt. You can read the last paragraph on what you will expect working at any winners. As written in the tile they don’t give much hours to employees hired after their probation . Less than 20 hours biweekly certain months. I have found since we opened our new store it’s very busy, but they still do not schedule enough people to work (likely to cut their own cost). It becomes a very frustrating environment to work in. They hire you off your availability most of the time and prioritize open availability. Difficult to live off this job and pick up another on the side. They are unpredictable and unreliable. What to expect: Upon being hired at any winners, you will be crossed trained to do everything. This means cashier, fitting room, sales floor and backroom warehouse. They will give you a voucher for safety shoes for warehouse work. Everyone gets scheduled to clean the washroom or lunch room. Training is simple. You will be paired with a coordinator. You will watch a video answer questions in a booklet and start doing things yourself while being overlooked.

Points positifs

Employee discounts, Wear your own clothes

Points négatifs

Unpredictable hours

Not bad

Breaks are substandard but it's a chill workplace. Culture is diverse and people are nice. Not much more to say, it's a pretty basic minimum wage job

Easy job for high school students

Decently easy job for high school students wanting work experience. Staff are nice and easy to cover shifts when needed. Long hours with only one 45 minute break and small employee discount

Super fast paced

The pace of the store depends on how big the store is, if it’s small then it’s slow but big then it’s probably one of the most fast paced stores in the area, some management is nice but there’s always one manager that everyone hates because they are always reliably mean and snarky, the particular store i worked at u need to expect to be overworks as lots of people are constantly quitting each week it seems. The people who do end up staying get to advance if management sees something in you which usually happens. They do try to focus on everyone growth which is good. The store i was at you constantly had a busy day and needed to get more than you could get done, done. When i first started it was actually quite good, but before i quit there goal was to reach 30 million and it really seemed like, that was there main goal (probably because it gave promotions to them and not workers) so since that was the main focus respecting other and recognizing what people couldn’t do was pushed to the side and made people too overworked. They also kept telling people that they needed to be more available even though they had kids to look after and a whole life that wasn’t work, and this was mostly with single mothers.

Points positifs

Benefits was nice

Points négatifs

Too overworked and they began expecting too much

great place for first job

Winners is a welcoming environment with a strong team behind it, the only issue one might run into is management or the pacing which may occur in certain positions. management will change from store to store but i found in my personal location that the management definitely comes with a power trip and this places conflicts sometimes in your schedule or performance rating based on how your manager feels about you. Lovely coworkers to be with , and are apart of the reason i have stayed for so long , customers are typically friendly and store environment is fairly clean . Lounge room is also a nice plus.

Good Experience for First Job

I'd say your experience really depends on management. I was very fortunate to have a great group of women who managed my store and loved to buy the staff snacks and food when possible. If the managers like you than you get really good hours. It's also a great experience for a first time job if you wanna learn the basics of retail. I got paid 15.25 an hour but I feel like it should've been more because you learn a lot but also need to do a lot.

Best retail job ive had

The management was so amazing! They did their best to accomodate any needs you may have or time you need off. They made having a work/life balance important. The expected time limits on work from head office was some times unrealisitc. But overall the environment was so welcoming and friendly. There was always great training. Some room for growth in the company but not super often (at least at my location).

Points positifs

yearly salary increase, great management, great work/life balance, good training

Points négatifs

very fast paced

First time work

It’s good if you want to have a job for the first time. Benefits aren’t that great. Managers are usually really accommodating if you go to school or have another job.

Great Co-Workers and Management, but hard to secure a consistent schedule if you don't have lots of experience.

Overall, while working at Winners, I felt a great sense of community, and I always felt like I could ask my coworkers and the managers there anything if I needed help or clarity, however, with a seasonal position, unless you have a lot of experience or you're working at a particularly busy store, do not expect more once your contract is over.

Overall a decent place to work

It’s a good first job but I find the environment is very different store to store and this is purely based on management. Some managers make work very serious and kind of ruins the environment takes away from the joys of work however it’s not a bad company to work for and there’s lots of learning that you can do in different positions throughout the store. I think some managers can definitely benefit from recognizing that having a fun environment can also be just as productive and not just expect staff to work like robots.

It's okay

Very fast paced in the morning and hectic. Management acted like they didn't want us there in the beginning. The pay isn't worth all the work you do.

Decent place to work

Standard entry level retail job. Management was fine and pretty fast paced work environment. A lot of hours to go around and some room for moving up i.

Fun workplace

Everyone is so nice and caring. This workplace felt more like home than work. The only downside is that they cannot give as many hours as they can even if they wanted to because it all depends on the sales we make.
