Whitemud Ironworks does structural steel fabrication and field install work for large general contractors. The workplace is quite inclusive. It has a very good team of mostly long tenure employees especially in the project management and drafting departments
The management cares goes out of their way to know everyone. They push safety all the time and back it up. Lots of hours on most projects. They cover training costs and supply qualtiy gear. Lots of guys from different places, it's a good culture and evertyone has eachothers backs.
Competitive pay, good crew, very diverse
They don't have t-shirt or hoodies
They dont respect you, and they dont treat you with respect. Upper management never is around. They probably dont even know your name, you're just an employee number to them. Only way to get promoted is if you're friends with management. Some foreman are so inexperienced it's almost laughable. No perks like Christmas parties, group functions, etc. No team building, and they dont even care about company culture. Maybe in the office, but for sure not in the field. Company is full of backstabbing white hats that will put you down just to build themselves up.
Decent pay, lots of work
Horrible management. Long hours. Zero respect
Management sucks. Its super clicky. Dont treat you with respect. Only promote people that are friends with management. You never see upper management, they probably dont even know who you are. You're just an employee number to them. Pays good, projects are some good, some bad. They dont care about the culture of the company. No perks like christmas parties, group activities, etc. No team building.
Good pay. Lots of work.
Long hours. Management doesnt care about you. Little to no room to move up in the company.
The company is a family business as we all see each other as a member of a family. We can voice our opinions and concerns without fear, and treat ourselves with respect, fairly, and there is an opportunity to grow as an individual and professionally within the organization.
Individuals are treated with respect with a reasonable balance of work

Union Job. Company is run from Alberta and will take work from BC if they run out (which happens often). No forward planning, countless layoffs due to not lining up work after large projects.
Union, Pay, Benefits
As soon as the work starts to slow a little you’re gone. Main shop is in Edmonton and Langley shop picks up scraps. Poor management. Union shop run like non-union shop.
No leadership, Poor shop management.
My time was fun , whether working on big projects or small simple fabrication. Was able to receive lots of experience in different fields, but it used to be a place where they treated their workers honestly and fairly. Now not so much, it's all about favouritism and whoever can be better friends with management.
No job security
Terrible company. They treat all their employees like they are just a number and dont recognize the talent of those working for them and just promote people they like not based on skills or the relationships they have with their workers
They dont care about their employees only about the bottom line.
You work and you go home, if your lucky the boss might shake your hand once a year.
Shop has problems getting jobs and keeping employees.
Shop has problems getting jobs and keeping employees.
Pay and Benefits
May put you on night shift even if it doesnt work with your schedule, management problems, high layoff rate, unfriendly enviroment
I really liked working for this company. I was laid off to go to school and was promised a job when I had completed my education and passed. I passed and went back only to be told that "we don't need anyone at the moment".
lots of work, great people, exciting
I loved working for the company I can definetly say they helped me become more skilled in my line of work. I got along great with the management and other tradesman which made it nice to come to work everyday.
