This was absolutely the best job I’ve ever had. Loved the people, loved the job, loved the culture. Spent 12 years with the company in 3 different positions. Wish I was still there.

I love the company I work for that is why I am still there and in my 17th year... it’s not easy with a family life though because of the hours for most of my career I have gotten up at 2 AM to be there for 3:30am! Overall this is a rewarding company to work for. The culture in this company is amazing however with the turn of events during Covid it is made this industry hard to work in.
Points négatifs
Bizarre hours... early morning/ Late night hours

Prior to covid, great company to work for. Flexible schedules and paid well. Most fellow employees are pleasant to work with. Though job can be physically and emotionally draining at times, great deal of satisfaction in giving award winning service to guests and have them return time and time again.
Points positifs
Travel and experience the world and different cultures
Points négatifs
Extended time away from home

My rating is based on Westjet since being bought over by Onex. It's no longer the same culture and 96% of airport operations are now being sourced out to 3rd party service providers resulting in lower salaries and no travel benefits. Such a disappointment.

It's harder to advance from within the company than should be. No support from management anymore, just discipline. No encouragement. Not cutting the fat where they need to. Front line employees getting the shaft for all the hard work. Too many middle management. About as bad as AC just before their last bankruptcy.
Points positifs
Travel, when you could
Points négatifs
Pay, support, feels like you are walking on eggshells.

This was a really fun job, one of the best ones I've had yet. Being around and working on planes was pretty cool but it came with downfalls too. The schedules were really flexible and hours varied depending on what you got. The people were really fun to be around, it almost felt like family. There was literally a person for any personality there. I think being at work was a happy place for a lot of people. Normally you'd come in and see whos crew your on and what flights you were doing for that day and check the vitals of your ground equipment. The job was really straight forward too, wing walk the plane in unload it then reload it and send it back out. There are other duties as well, like servicing the waters, emptying the lavatory waste, working in the bagroom or bringing offloaded bags to the arrivals carousel (connection running). The job was usually very chill other than winter and summer storms where they would try and force crews into staying late. Management was hit or miss, some were great and others you didn't want to be around, especially one specific manager. We had wicked flight benefits and health benefits to. Fly anywhere we flew for super cheap sounds great right? Well the job came with a lot of drawbacks too. There were a lot of injuries as it was a very labor intensive job and being in a lot of awkward physically positions and the starting pay didn't really make up for this. There were also times where you and your crew would get guilt tripped into staying a bit later because not enough people were still around to push your plane that was leaving 30 minutes - plus...
Points positifs
Flight Benefits, Health Benefits, Scheduling, Chill Environment
Points négatifs
Staying Late, Some Managment

Poor training, communication, and under trained/experienced managers make for a difficult work environment. Staff scheduling is confusing and designed to give no work life balance. Hard working employees get overlooked and the brown nosing employees get rewarded. The pay does not compensate the verbal threats of abuse from passengers.

Overall this is an amazing company to work if you're looking to become a cabin crew member. Ample paid vacation time that is awarded through a bidding system, flexible schedule where you bid for what you want and dump or trade shifts easily. Great coworkers and if don't get along with someone it's ok because you only work with them for 1-5 days max. Every day is different which is great because there is never any monotony. Guests generally love WestJet and appreciate how kind and professional we are. Reserve call outs are the only unpredictable thing in terms of destinations. You must be prepared for your call outs which could mean working red eyes or 4 am check ins. Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment. Must be comfortable administering first aid or dealing with difficult guests and thinking on your feet. Pay is not great when you start out but the benefits and travel perks are amazing. Most people have a second job. It is an addictive lifestyle!
Points positifs
Never monotonous, great travel benefits, great coworkers, good culture, escaping winter in Canada with a few sunny layovers can't be beat!
Points négatifs
Long hours, early check-ins, flipping between time-zones, IROPS and delays.

I loved working at WESTJET - I was a proud to say that I was a WestJetter! The people are what makes this company an amazing place to work! I looked forward to going to work every day. Benefits are good and the hours of work are somewhat flexible. If you are interested in learning about airline business there is lots of opportunity to learn. I really enjoyed every opportunity to learn and grow and was able to take advantage of my own growth.
Points positifs
Employees, travel, flexible shifting, great work environment
Points négatifs
Shift work in some roles, some days can be tougher than others - but you get through as a team

WestJet has been a decent company to work for. The corporate culture can be a bit overwhelming at times. There is a lot of middle management constantly creating new ways to re-brand old tasks. The training was very intense and there is a lot to learn but the trainers are supportive and helpful. Working from home was a great perk for WestJet. The hourly wage is not very reflective of the amount of work that is required, but the travel perks are definitely a huge bonus, and the dental/health benefits are good. Working on the phones can be very busy and stressful, especially during flight disruptions. You are constantly bombarded with changes to policies but that seems common to the travel industry, especially with Covid-19. There is a huge amount of information that needs to be retained but there is a good support network available for assistance if needed. Most guests are hospitable and friendly but be prepared to deal with some very unhappy, entitled and abusive people, especially during flight disruptions. Overall I enjoyed my time at WestJet but there are definitely some things that need improving.
Points positifs
Work from home, travel perks, able to connect with guests on personal level
Points négatifs
Can be very stressful, occasionally abusive guests, low pay, constantly changing guidelines

Points négatifs
low pay, lots of walking and standing around

Everyone speaks culture, culture, culture. People who have been at the company for years basically make their way through the ranks even if not qualified. It's a "good old boys" club culture. All the buddies remain when things get tough and all the good get thrown out even if it means that the skills go with them. Works out well for Air Canada I guess as most who have experienced the bumping are gladly picked up by Air Canada.

Typical day starts with a 6am brief if you get a morning schedule. Then you check your daily tasks and head to the gates or check-in. Bosses are very approachable but expect mature behaviour and adherence to rules. They catch people who slack or don't pull their weight and I appreciate working somewhere where that actually happens! Very strict about timeliness, never be late! They don't forget and it goes on your record and can stop you from moving around in the company. One late on your name and you wont be considered for in-flight jobs. The flight benefits are AMAZING. The main reason most of the people are working there. England and back (to Toronto) $170. Toronto to Costa Rica and back = $67. Its just unbeatable. Toronto to Vancouver and back= $70. Like I said, best job ever.
Points positifs
great co-workers, benefits, profit sharing, flexible scheduling, airport movie moments
Points négatifs
not the best hourly wage for living in GTA

Good teamwork and work environment. Job was challenging but rewarding. Pay is the major downside, but for the industry not the company. The amount of responsibility a technician has is crucial to the safety of air crew/ passengers and aircraft. Always working with deadline so the delays to passengers are minimal. mostly working outdoors in all weather conditions making sure aircrafts are safe to fly but not payed enough for it all. If this job is your passion, then yes, this company is one of the better ones to work for.
Points positifs
good work/life balance
Points négatifs
low salary

I honestly cannot say enough good things about WestJet. It really is a great airline to work for. Management is supportive and it's a breath of fresh air that they want to see you succeed and will back up your decisions. I also love that the company is community driven. The only negative I can say is that the pay amount for contact centers is on the average low side but the culture makes up for that as well being home based so no costs affiliated with commuting. The only reason I am leaving Westjet is because the Vancouver contact center operations is being terminated due to Covid19. I honestly cannot wait for the company to start hiring again & I'll be there in line with my application.
Points positifs
Home based, supportive management, travel benefits.
Points négatifs
Lower end of pay
