Your offering up your second biggest investment;your vehicle to travel all over town only being paid a third of actual mileage. No paid time in between clients and no allotted time for breaks or lunch. Your only real reward is knowing your helping them because it’s not serving yourself !

VON has very good backup team support and the employees there are very supportive, considerate and professional. The management are very caring employees and always give employee efficient and timely support once emergency happened. Reasonable schedule

stay clear of this place if you are a PSW that belives in client care

only worked here for 2 months and that was way to long!!!! the managment and CAS were so rude and had no compassion or empathy I have called them q few times due to time conflicts and they were so rude! they pretty much said to bad to sad if the client cant do that time then no booking for them. this was appalling to hear seeing as they are here to serve the client make your life easier not harder. staff would rush bookings so they could fit more clients in so they could make more money eg. an hr booking so would cut it down to 1/2hr so they could fit an extra client. the office knows this and are completely fine with it!!!!!!! half the psw they hire dont know how to do the job or dont even speak English fluently. was always going into bookings where before staff have left a mess. pay sucks, no travel pay and the wear and tear isnt worth it. If they were to get good management that cares and treated staff right and did a proper screening of the staff they hired this could be a good place to work.

Long hour, lower than average pay, VERY poor management only concerned about the bottom line. Coworkers are great but office staff that do the planning leave something to be desired.

Just don't if you value your sanity

I would rather quit nursing than ever work in community nursing again. Welcome to very bad pay, double bookings, no pay for drive time, no manager support and being bullied by CSA's. I had high Hope's but that soon ended when my health deterioated fast. It starts at government level lack and complete disregard for nurses safety and wellbeing.

Company High Turn Over due to Mgt

Often had to work double shifts, but paid the same as a regular shift :(
Bring concerns about another staff inability to keep our clients safety and health to your manager NOT well received.
They tend to be quick to discipline and slow to reward. NOT a good way to treat staff!

Fantastic program and great team

I was given to opportunity to acquire new skills, hone existing skills, and develop an affinity for the client-centred approach to healthcare provision. It is difficult for me to leave this position as I have greatly enjoyed my time as a case coordinator.

My immediate team is wonderful, but beyond that VON is dreadful to work with. The pay is garbage (about 25% less than comparable jobs) and the benefits/pension are mediocre. Turnover rates for management are through the roof, which should tell you something...

Hears the breakdown for this company

First of all DO NOT work in visiting nursing. They will work you to the bone and you will be stressed out and underpaid. I think that's where most of the bad reviews are coming from.

If you wanna work here apply to the SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAM. It's like their best kept secret. They dont promote it half as much as the visiting nursing and its honestly one of the best jobs I've had. For school health program you take terminally I'll children to school and support them throughout their day. Duties may include: trach care, cancer management, diabetes management, tube feeds, suctioning etc. Hours are monday to friday usually 9-3:30 weekends off, summers off, school holidays off. Now if that's not enough hours you can say you're willing to work before and after school as well and you'll get your hours there.

Overall it's a pretty okay company just make sure you stick up for yourself or they'll take advantage and walk all over you. Know your rights as a nurse and dont jeopardize your license for anyone or anything.

Expectations were not met, job description was not provided, tasks were constantly piled upon me, management was unprofessional, demeaning, and devalued every employee. Culture is terrible, a few long tenure staff comprised a clique and make everyone else's day a living nightmare, no enjoyable parts of the job.

New to VON family!

I am a new employee to the VON family. Staff are incredibly helpful, supportive, patient. Moral is high, great orientation - extensive orientation that was a welcome surprise! New to community nursing and to being a service provider in community - new found appreciation for all staff and all roles in this organization. This organization has deep roots, easy to see why VON has been a leading service provider for many, many years. Also, allows for work-life balance, which has been a blessing with a young family. Happy to have found a happy, healthy work family and am proud to be part of this family now!

Staff are belittled and treated like garbage. Clients needs are not put first. I worked hard for them for a long time and just couldn't take it anymore. Most of the staff including managers have a quick turn around. I was one of the top seniority until they stripped my seniority for changing positions within the company.

Scheduling is an absolute nightmare! They don’t know what they’re doing and don’t bother trying to suggest help... they’re right and you’re wrong. They have their favourites and will do for them and not anyone else. I’ll They talk smack about all the CCA’s and nurses.. right in the office. No support from the managers whatsoever. Trying to get support is like talking to a wall. It’s always a fight. They let the bad employees get away with everything and are hard on the good employees. Managers do not care about your safety or health.. they only care about reaching KPI’s and their 8-4 mon-fri jobs, where they can take off any days they would like. Don’t bother trying to switch a shift, it’ll NEVER happen. No flexibility in hours at all. Working part time is really full time, but 6 hour pay and full time is more then 10 hours out of your day every single day, with only 8 hours pay. This job consumes your life. They will mandate you to work and you have no choice but to say yes. They do not care about work-life balance AT ALL.
You couldn’t ask for more wonderful clients! They’re the only reason us CCA’s stay at this job.

Back stabbing, lying, false reports, management is never around, scheduling conflicts, favourites are picked and they get all the hours regardless of seniority. Union would not listen or follow through to protect employees. Stress and burnout occur and when reported psw is brushed off with no direction for help. Cut throat place to work, high school Mentality.

Below average pay (and getting worse) for extensive work

Continual year in year out pay cuts to front line workers makes for what now has become a minimum wage job. Travel time is not paid so in a rural area it can mean 9 or 10 hours of work to get paid 7. You are not properly reimbursed for the mandatory use of your vehicle.
Management and administration paid 30% above average, while care providers paid 30% below causing them to be constantly looking for new workers. This used to be an OK place to work but now it's policies are putting employees further behind.
