Accountant
Accounting Technician (Ancien employé) –  St Laurent, QC16 septembre 2019
No SOP employee manual probably reason for constant questioning at month end and fear of making mistakes which are openly shared with rest of employees, as an example by mgrs and superv. Mostly female middle aged employees w/ clicky work environment. Micromgmt by team leads and little decision making by employees.
Points positifs
good parking

tightly controlled & managed employees

Do not work here
Sales Representative (Ancien employé) –  Canada18 mai 2019
This company is absolutely brutal to work for. Management has no clue about the market. Minimum orders are at least double all other competitors and customer service is non existent. Centralized everything so it takes forever to get things done. 90% of your time is spent in non sales activities. Try beating your head against a wall and you would start to get the idea. Extremely frustrating and toxic atmosphere. Most would jump at another opportunity if available. Just look as the stock performance. That says it all.

Horrible management and work environment. DO NOT WORK HERE!
Customer Service Representative (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB12 mars 2019
Unless you're up for being 110% pressured to learn 10+ astoundingly old software in a matter of weeks, abysmal training, and dealing managers that are more focused on bullying their staff than... well actually managing it, you're in for a very frustrating experience.

This is my absolute truth from my own experience. They'll tell you upon hire is that they care and one of their priorities is your improvement. However, this is far from the case as many of us started in a small class that was reduced to none within days despite our growth. No reasons given.

The work content is massive and the training was god-awful. As mentioned, you're expected to learn and communicate between 10+ applications/software (some of which are drastically old or flat out useless) and a years worth of hands-on experience within weeks, if not you're pretty much out of door. They also find it funny to talk loud, play ringtones, and bang on things during your exams to see if you can handle the pressure... none found this funny, but rather embarrassing for what's deemed to be a professional organization.
Since Unisource's change to Veritiv, I've come to find out that many longtime employees have since left and the numbers are still dwindling. There is a huge disconnect between the workers and the managers as they refuse to listen to their employees, small problems are always made into big problems, and they're now building a reputation for bringing on new hires and pushing those out the door they don't like just on a personal level alone.

My overall experience here was disturbing and nonsensical.
plus... The turnover rate is high because it's being run like a daycare center rather than a solid work environment. If you're seeking job security, respect, integrity, and/or simple work/life balance, I'd steer very clear from Veritiv. Mind you, this review is only scratching the surface. You've been warned!  moins
Points positifs

Innovative and productive workplace w/diversity people
Product and Pricing File Coordinator (Employé actuel) –  Mississauga, ON5 septembre 2018
Veritiv is leading North American distribution company with head quarter in Atlanta.
I am proud to be part of our team with great management.
Distribution business is different from regular company. Efficiency and exceptional customer service is priority.
The hardest part of my job is to juggle many tasks in short period of time.
The beauty is the great feeling of accomplishment at the end of the day.
Points positifs
Free coffee and tea, brand new office.
Points négatifs

Decent place to work, but below average salary for some positions
Anonymous (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB20 juillet 2018
Veritiv has good people, decent management (for the most part) and do make an effort to treat employees fairly well.

However, the pay for some positions is lower than average which causes more turnover than what it should be.

I'd probably rate it as a 4-star operation (out of 5) but yeah the money isn't good enough and they have a hard time keeping people, unfortunately.
Points positifs
Free food, laid-back atmosphere, competent managers

Toxic ENVIROMENT in Edmonton
Warehouse Worker (Ancien employé) –  Edmonton, AB17 février 2018
Extremely poor management. Under qualified and no idea what actually goes on in their warehouse, because 1-they make brief appearances and stand around. 2- rely on computer numbers and people snitching on each other to make gauge warehouse activities 3- flat out say THEY can't do their job but you have to do yours 4- use the word team but have their own private team and agendas 5- say they don't have to supervise because you are all adults but they treat you like a child and take away any freedoms and condem independent thinking. STAY AWAY from Edmonton branch
Points positifs
Pay was decent
Points négatifs
Very poor management

Mad House - Slavery in Dust Land
Warehouse Worker (Employé actuel) –  Mississauga, ON21 novembre 2017
Night Shift: The worst place & Shift to work for. Bad culture at night shift. New night shift supervisor, trying hard to prove himself (no experience), pushing employees hard to get the numbers. Three team leaders. Only one working all the time. The harder you work the more work you get. Old Raymond reach and walkies. They never fix the problem machines. Very, very dusty place. get ready to swallow and breathe dust. Management is the worst part - hire and fire policy.
Need new upper management

Terrible Terrible
Customer Service Professional (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB19 juillet 2017
If management does not like you consider yourself out even though you are doing a great job. You have to suck up to the favourite staffs and lick a** a lot. It was a terrible experience, they fire for no concrete reason, they treat you like a child, as a matter of fact TERRIBLE! Run from this company except you are a certified a** licker and have no mind of your own.
Points positifs
Pay was okay
Points négatifs
Terrible management, most of the staffs are just plain mean, so much politics

Only good if your face fits.
Customer Service Professional (Ancien employé) –  Calgary, AB29 mai 2017
Management are all best friends. They all look out for number one and there are far too many people calling the shots.

Training is poor, they expect you to instantly know an industry that could take years to learn. Unless you're experienced, they'll push you out eventually.

They don't care about their customer service team, so long as the phones are answered. If any issues arise in customer service, management will always side with the customer.

For such a big, wealthy company, their systems and the condition of the facilities (Calgary) are laughable.

Pay is good but it's not worth the hassle. Avoid.

Lacks Management with any EQ strengths | No Growth opportunities
AMC (Ancien employé) –  Mississauga, ON18 mai 2017
A typical day is tasking the same requests daily; taking direction from a Program Manager. You may get stuck with a PM who isnt knowledgeable or is ESL which makes it tough to work with as they're not sure what they're doing more than half the time.
Boring, repetative work that is very frustrating due to the possesses implemented, and the lack of standard operating procedures. You will get different answers from different people that are quite often incorrect. Not proactive, very reactive.

ESL is a problem with some, they know their job tasks because they've been there forever, but have no training skill sets.

Management in this area, I can confirm lacks EQ, and IQ, and is not open to improvement suggestions at all. They're threatened by anyone coming in who might have a brain, and can see within the first week that change is badly needed. They think they know it all, but they really have no clue.

Other departments do not collaborate, they pass the buck. Dump and run. They say, I don't know, that's not my job, this is the way we've always done things. Check out some of their LinkedIn profiles, and you'll fully understand the mess you were hired into.

Compensation is lacking but then again, it's not rocket science or challenging work by any means. If you're looking for a challenge with growth, this is not going to be your dream job. If you just want a no mind required job, then it might be for you. Culture is questionable.

Good luck. The other reviews read pretty accurate.
Points positifs

Poor Salary compared to today's economic enviroment
Client Services Coordinator (Employé actuel) –  Mississauga, ON2 mai 2017
The salary is not comparable to today's economic climate.
There is no room for growth as succession planning is not embraced.

Encouraged to do personal development and tuition is paid in full for academic development but not promotion after qualification.

bad management
Warehouse Worker (Ancien employé) –  Winnipeg, MB3 mars 2017
Winnipeg location is badly managed .forklifts not maintained properly, incoming stock that sits for weeks and weeks on the floor.you will never get a day shift their .evenings only available .the 18 an hour start rate is no big deal.when you see all your deductions after a 2 week check you loose a little more than 30% of it .also its union in their so that's another deduction on your check..this corporation used to be called Unisource.its all picking and loading mostly paper products like stuff for staples which is their big account.18 an hour aint bad for a warehouse job but they will look for a reason to get rid of you before your 3 months probation is up.overall don't waste your time with this poor managed corporation.every 3 or 6 months their always advertising for a new warehouse person. that should be a red flag right their for anyone thinking about working for them.

badly managed overall, neglegant on maintenance of forklifts

Good co-workers, poor management(warehouse)
Warehouse Specialist (Ancien employé) –  Mississauga, ON23 septembre 2016
I worked all 3 shifts at this place. The co-workers are very helpful.
Day shift get the advantage, mostly senior employees. great bunch of guys. Day shift manager talks nicely(play double game). forgets most of the time.
Afternoon shift : good guys, do their work , very helpful. Afternoon supervisor is the best guy. does not talk much. always working and busy.
Night shift:always busy. basically this is the cleanup shift. whatever was left behind by the other 2 shifts, dumped on to this shift(put away, off loading, picking, warehouse sweeping, garbage cleaning, .....). great co-workers always willing to help each other. Supervisor is very experienced. straight forward, indirectly force employees to work extra time. Hard to take time off. Favour some employees

Management doesn't care about the people on night shift, out of all 3 shift this is the hard working shift.

Logistics Specialist (Ancien employé) –  Mississauga, ON5 septembre 2016
Working with the people at Veritiv is awesome, but the management sucks. No body from management even cares about the people on night shift, or recognize what they had contributed to the growth of the company. It seems like they think night shift don't even existed, and that things get magically finished at night.
