VIU’s rich history and connection with its communities dates back to 1936 when Nanaimo’s first vocational training school opened its doors. Today, VIU offers an extensive range of programming, from industry-responsive trades and applied training to academic undergraduate and graduate degrees.
VIU has evolved into a dynamic, internationally known university that supports a student population in excess of 17,000 full-and part-time learners, including 1,500 international students, over 2,000 Aboriginal students, and employs over 2,300 faculty and staff.
VIU operates four campuses, including a main campus in Nanaimo and regional campuses in Duncan, Powell River and Parksville•Qualicum. VIU is also the proud owner of Milner Gardens and Woodland in Qualicum Beach, named one of the top 10 public gardens in Canada as well as the Deep Bay Marine Field Station.
