Terrible place to work
HCA (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC1 octobre 2019
Treat staff not good, constant bullying from older staff...management is not good, take away job titles for no reason and put others at risk by doing so.

Quality Professional Support Available Upon Request
Registered Care Aide (Employé actuel) –  Vancouver, BC17 septembre 2019
I have found my working experience at VIHA to be a collaborative, professional and organized in nature. The program of client care is built on the fundamentals of health care safety, quality, and above all else, patient care emphasized in delivering care that motivates clients to rehab and develop healthy habits in daily functioning tasks.

Often work short, and some nurses are not helpful
British Columbia (Employé actuel) –  British Columbia28 août 2019
Depends on what area you work in, sometimes the team work is exceptional, and sometimes you are left to do most of the heavy work.
Management is mostly pro-nurse, and can sometimes leave the care aides with little to no backup when it comes to dispute.
The best part of the job is working with the patients!

Good pay, culture needs improvement
Scheduler (Ancien employé) –  British Columbia22 août 2019
Pay is good, culture is riddled with issues - training was sub par, spent months only able to do the basics of the job. Pay is good and opportunities to pick up extra shifts are available.

Work in Acute Ortho/Step Down Trauma Victoria General was great
Acute Care Float Pool Registered Nurse (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC19 juin 2019
I had 8 hours Float RN shifts and was able to work at both Victoria General Hospital and at the Downtown Royal Jubilee Hospitals.
Overall, my clinical experiences and the supportive mentorship from senior nurse colleagues and the ONA Stewards was absolutely exceptional!! I miss working for VIHA, for sure.
Points positifs
8 hours shifts and clinical exposure to various fields of practice
Points négatifs
Non-Nursing managers who did not understand Nursing culture and needs of nurses new graduates

Good benefits
Payroll data clerk (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC8 avril 2019
They provide decent benefits. Wages are only so so for the work you do. Employees are very dispensable. You do get to meet great people. Once in , you can apply internally, for diff jobs within VIHA.

Project Analyst (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC21 mars 2019
Excellent Benefits, great work life balance

While Island Health can be a great place to work, it does a poor job of holding on to talented and committed staff.

Working at Victoria General was one of the most rewarding locations I have worked at. The Neurological Rehabilitation Ward and team has a wonderful understanding of the diagnosis they are there to aid.

Professional development
Project Manager (Ancien employé) –  Victoria, BC16 novembre 2018
There are no professional development opportunities but a Professional Development Plan is part of the loosely executed annual reviews. Some directors need to be held accountable for their moral and ethics short comings

Toxic, unfriendly, miserable work environment
Administrative Assistant (Ancien employé) –  British Columbia26 octobre 2018
If you're looking for a fun, enjoyable place to work, look elsewhere. But if you like being treated disrespectfully, bullied, yelled at, blamed then this is the hellhole for you! The most unenjoyable place I've ever worked! Read the report on just how toxic this place is before you venture into it.

Rehabilitation Assistant (Employé actuel) –  Victoria, BC19 octobre 2018
Provides benefits for your family. The organization is poorly organized. To many different departments responsible for parts of processes. Making lots of room for errors. ex: payroll and booking vacation time. Policys developed by CEOs and not followed up by management, causing the employee to defend them self to other mangers.

Better Training, better morale
Administrative Support Clerk (Employé actuel) –  Parksville, BC17 octobre 2018
When I was first hired and never had used the Viha Computer system I found that it would’ve been most helpful if you could have taken courses on their system so you understand fully how that system works. Coming from Fraser health they have computer courses to support your learning ability of their system. Being admin support staff the wages are worse than pathetic and we are so far behind. As for being a casual on call, the new:call out system for staffing is very broken. Sad to think of all the money they spent implementing that and they still haven’t got it working the way it should. Working at Oceanside Health Centre has become an absolute joke there as they call it “ The Oceanside shuffle “ That’s because staffing could not get the calls out in a timely manner and management has to shuffle staff around to make the day work. Doesn’t make for a great working environment. There is no comradory among staff and the morale is extremely low. As the saying goes, there is now “I” in teamwork.
Points positifs
nice new facility
Points négatifs
Extremely Low wage, low morale

15 years of working with Island Health
Nurses Aid and Ambulance escort (Ancien employé) –  Courtenay, BC10 octobre 2018
The care provided by the majority of the workers is excellent. Many happy memories with the most sensitive time in a person's life. I have learned from people what is important to them. The staff is stretched to the limit. We are rushed with care. The baths are once a week .. bed bath daily with a quick swish. The politics times difficult to deal with. Gentle care policy is now in place so patients are handled with more care and less Arm & Arm approach.. The ceiling lifts are great.. patients enjoy the lift from bed to chair ect.. Activity programs are entertaining and caring and include family involvement. It is the most rewarding career I have ever had.
Points positifs
Patient Care is team based.
Points négatifs
The salary has barely changed in the past 10 years.
