Minimal work life balance— love the store, the products and the people
Assistant Manager (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 22 août 2022
Avis en vedette
L'avis le plus utile, sélectionné par IndeedThe work culture can be really fun and quite engaging. Days are either really fast paced and busy that can feel pretty hectic, especially if understaffed. Or they instead feel slow paced and seem to drag on other days. The expectation is high for management with little to no real reward besides being paid more than some retailers but that being said, there is a lot of manual labour expected with long hours and no real time to have a life for yourself outside of your very lengthy work hours and demand to be in the business practically every weekend per month. Management could use improvement with setting a more positive and uplifting work environment and valuing staff more. The product, discount, certain staff, and the customers make the experience rather enjoyable however there is certainly work to be done within this company. Hopefully they will consider some restructure and be able to see some growth in the right directions for the future.

Fun workplace, loved the people I worked with
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 6 juillet 2022
The Queen St location was by far the best store to work at. I loved the people I worked with and the managers were chill and flexible. There’s always something to do so it never got too boring.

Productive and fun !
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 23 décembre 2021
I worked at the Queen/Spadina location as a sales associate and this is probably the BEST location in the city to work at! i will never forget the relationships i made with my coworkers plus management does a pretty good job at make u feel included and head! you’re always busy on the job too so time goes by faster! u could be doing a lot of things like working from upstairs to downstairs and then hopping on cash!
Points positifs
Free food/drinks from neighbouring stores, managers who listen to your needs, opportunity to make friends with like minded people, productive, a large lunchbreak area, always felt welcomed, 40% discount on clothes!
Points négatifs
Maybe 1 manager who was kinda mean lol

Cool Environment / Bad Management
Department Manager (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 11 avril 2021
UO is such a cool/creative place to work. All of your coworkers have interesting side gigs of being musicians, artists, photographers, designers, etc. The products are awesome, and you get 70% discount off of one outfit per month, and 50% off the rest of the time. Helping customers can be pretty fun, sometimes challenging. The management is pretty hit or miss, if you have a bad store manager it's a nightmare to work there, but if you have a good one it's heaven. There's no real accountability for bad managers and the anonymous HR helpline leads to an answering machine that I'm not sure ever gets listened to. Left because management were toxic.
Points positifs
Cool vibe, good discount, awesome co-workers
Points négatifs
Bad management, Problematic head office

Fun workplace
Seasonal Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 25 août 2020
Applied for a seasonal sales associate position for christmas and ended up turning into a part time employee. The people were really chill and friendly for the most part and I looked forward to seeing a lot of them every time I went in. I never got cash trained at Urban, however it was a good experience in retail: putting back clothes, organizing, maintaining merch displays etc, however it got a little boring sometimes when the store was empty. The only real annoying part was scheduling shifts; I was scheduled outside of my availability more than twice within the first month and the app that Urban uses to schedule shifts (Kronos) sucks and is not user friendly whatsoever.
Points positifs
cool people, very chill work environment, chill dress code
Points négatifs
scheduling/switching shifts was weird, can get quite boring if you aren't a cashier

meh
Stylist (Employé actuel) - Toronto, ON - 3 juin 2020
urban outfitters is great for a student, however they don't offer many opportunities to move up. management is iffy and they definitely pick favourites, despite how hard you work you are often overlooked. they also are not very proactive when it comes to complaints and handling employee concerns.

High-school-like environment
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 18 mai 2020
While it is mostly like a standard retail experience, the young age of the sales associate can make this environment feel more like high school than a workplace. The quality of any given UO is all dependant on the quality of the store managers, and luckily mine were amazing.

depends on your location
Sales Associate/Team Leader (Employé actuel) - Toronto, ON - 28 avril 2020
the company culture is amazing, and there are opportunities to work in different departments. the management differs between locations - both locations ive been at have been great so far, especially my current. transferring between locations is very common for all job roles.

Honestly a 5/10 ten, the pros and cons balanced out even-stevens. Not a one, nor a two, nor a three, nor a four, but a 5 out of ten - just to get to the word count.

Great People
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 21 juin 2018
Always a wonderful staff even when the expectations or job were difficult or less than fun. Often told to work more time than was available, or work overtime without the mandated break, but I worked at a busy location and the work wasn't very hard.

Great start to retail sales
SALES ASSOCIATE & FITTING ROOM ATTENDANT (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 18 avril 2018
Once again, an always moving and fast paced work environment with mass amounts of product forced the staff to be well versed in a variety of not only clothing related items but housewares and electronics.
Points positifs
Team Camaraderie
Points négatifs
Long hours

Great Co-workers
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 30 octobre 2017
management was unfortunately condescending.
hours are based on favourites in store
no training, resulting in confusion when thrown on the floor and not having complete knowledge.

Store Merchandiser (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 25 octobre 2017
Urban is a great place to work for. They are innovative and creative, which was great. The management however needs work and they need to tweak the regimen when it comes to that role. Higher ups also need sensitivity training.
Points positifs
great discounts and you meet cool people
Points négatifs
management needs work

Just Another Retail Job
Operations and Department Manager (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 19 octobre 2017
It was ok. Just another job that pays the bills. They expect alot with not alot of wage to back it up. Job security is not the best. The entire Merchandising team from head office all the way down to store level was let go this year.

Pays well but I hated going in.
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 8 mars 2017
The management at Anthropologie was so weak, the girls were so rude to a first-time sales associate, decided to not train me and gave me so many tasks on my first day of work. On school nights I had to stay until 1am sometimes because they'd cut 2 or 3 of the girls for that shift and 3 of us would have to close the entire store on our own.
The perks of being in the company were good, there were so many good discounts and benefits from working here to be honest. But it wasn't an enjoyable place to work.

Loved the people
Men's Department Specialist (Ancien employé) - Toronto, ON - 10 mars 2016
The management team was really strong at my first location, then at my second location my management team had failed to do what a management team should. My coworkers and customers were amazing.
