Environnement très toxique à long terme

amazing coworker, everything else is bad
Sales Team Leader (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 21 janvier 2022
the management is the worst i’ve ever seen in my entire life, we switched SBL three time in the last year i was there, you can ask for a day off 3 months in advance and they’ll find a way to schedule you anyways and then say it’s your problem if you can’t come in and to find a replacement. During the holidays they hire alot of new people but don’t put them as seasonals so when January hits and there’s no more hours to give they go by who’s their favourite in the team. They don’t care if you’ve been there 3 years or if you have rent to pay they’ll schedule you for a whopping 3 hours when you were hired as a 20 hour/week part timer. LOVED LOVED LOVED my coworkers and the fact we didn’t have a dress code but honestly not worth it. I was a Team Leader and i was paid barely a dollar over minimum wage, they don’t care about their employees and their mental health at all. great discount tho (40% and 60% off)
Points positifs
good music, great discount and amazing coworkers
Points négatifs
everything else

do NOT work here
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 8 mars 2020
extremely toxic work environment. i've seen otherwise nice people turn into bitter negative people once they became employees here. typical day at urban outfitters montreal involves receiving unnecessary and condescending attitudes from the managers, being pressured to repeatedly annoy customers and pretending to be busy. everyone always complains about how bad the job is which makes the environment generally very negative.
male managers make the environment all the more toxic as they are in their late 20s/early 30s and pick fights/throw shade at 18-22 year old girls. they give you written warnings WITHOUT telling you so you can randomly find yourself with 3 written warnings and on the brink of getting fired and be completely unaware of it.
you also have to go through a bag check for every single time you leave the store. including on your lunch break. already punched out for your 30minute break? too bad, you'll have to lose 15 minutes of that break waiting for a manager as they take their sweet time to bag check you.
the environment amongst the employees isn't as bad as it is with the managers, but the employees are very cliquey and will have absolutely no problem with making you feel like you dont exist as they don't even respond when you say hi. there is also a lot of drama concerning the employees, which is the only "good" part about this job considering it's very entertaining to see literal adults act like high school freshmen. if you think you'll be able to stay on the outskirts of the drama at this job, you're in for something because people have a blast making -

very average
Conseiller et accueillir la clientèle (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 25 novembre 2019
The team itself was super fun and welcoming, but the management at the time was atrocious: very cold and rude. It seemed that they did not make an effort to incorporate everybody in the store - very distant with their employees and their customer...

Very Chill Retail Job
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 21 octobre 2019
If you're going to work retail, I would recommend Urban. The clients can be frustrating, but the staff always proved to be a large, welcoming family who made it better every day.

Very friendly and caring workplace
Backstock Worker (Ancien employé) - Montreal - 4 septembre 2019
This was a lovely place to work with friendly staff and management. I was well looked after and was often offered extra hours to help support me. The pay could have been better but was fairly calculated.

Worst Job
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 11 mars 2019
Worst job I've had so far. Employees are not valued. Work environment horrible. Management is extremely bad. NO communication at all. Managers treat you like a number. They don't value employees when they want you to leave the company they stop talking to you. Some managers made employees cry. Seriously the vibe is bad, If you don't need to work there don't apply
Points positifs
Made amazing friends, Discount is amazing
Points négatifs
No communication, management horrible

Great atmosphere & experience
Sales Associate (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 16 avril 2017
This was my first job and it gave me experience interacting with customers in a usually fast-paced environment. The atmosphere of the store as well as coworkers were great. The downside was that because we were so many employees at our location, it was difficult to get hours.

Had a fun experience there overall
Sales Associate and Customer Service (Ancien employé) - Montréal, QC - 22 mars 2017
Salary and hours are the biggest problems at urban outfitters. But from what I have seen in the world of retail, it is indeed one of the most interesting, creative place to work.
