Established in 1983, Upper Canada Child Care Centres is a growing family of over 80 child care programs, day camps and a residential camp operating throughout North York, York Region and Simcoe County. We are committed to providing quality programs that are consistent with Ministry of Education policies and pedagogy.
Upper Canada Child Care views all children as competent, curious individuals who are rich in potential and capable of complex thinking. Each child is a unique person with his/her own interests, abilities and dispositions, and deserves to feel accepted, understood, supported and respected within our programs.
Research tells us that children learn in relationship with their environment and with others, through interactions with the people around them and through actively exploring their world with bodies, minds and senses. Children learn best when they are fully involved in experiences that are meaningful to them, support their own interests, and allow them to make connections between what they already know and what they are experiencing. Most importantly, we know that children learn through their play.
Upper Canada Child Care has a strong commitment to outdoor play where children can explore and investigate. Through their natural curiosity and creativity children can build connections with the natural world around them. Educators look for opportunities to explore nature outside of “the fence”, by accessing local community green spaces such as fields, ponds and forests, and by engaging in field trips to outdoor locations such as conservation areas, parks and local farms.
We recognize that our children grow up in families with diverse experience and cultural perspectives. Families know their children best and are each child’s first and most influential teachers. Respecting the importance of family ties and traditions, we believe that we must work in partnership with families to promote the overall success of each child’s experience.
Upper Canada Child Care Educators are knowledgeable, caring, reflective and resourceful professionals who collaborate with each other to continually develop their insight into the children and families with whom they work. Building on their understanding, our teachers work together to create engaging environments and experiences which nurture physical and emotional well-being, foster a sense of belonging and community, and promote all forms of expression. – moins
