They are always short staff and the staff that you work with allow the youth to do whatever they like. There is no structure, and those in management gossip more than the staff in the homes. Hard for relief staff to get shifts because the full time staff and managers take any extra shifts that come up for themselves. Salary also doesn't increase so where you start is where you stay for your entire period working with them. Many of their workers are also racist and some of their managers as well.

This organization is ruled with an iron fist if you have your own health concerns they are rebuked. Many people work out of the office which is good but if you ask to do the same you are let go. No matter how good your job performance was or how this termination will affect the team you work with.
I loved the work and the team I worked with but I would not recommend working here at all.

I was shocked to read some of the reviews on here and felt compelled to leave one myself, I worked for Unlimited Potential as both casual and full time. The management in the program and upper management were always available and on call 24/7, they answered my questions and after I dealt with a physically aggressive client they were there to support me. I had access to the employee assistance program for someone to talk to for free. The pay is what it is for this field across Alberta and they have really good benefits. It is a great company with a great culture and they are very trauma informed, it was sad to see the strong negative perception being put out there.

I worked at Unlimited Potential Community Services for 3.5 years and for the most part, I loved my job there. Working with the kids was so rewarding and I loved getting to do things with them in the community.
Towards the end of my time there, I found that the management team was not as supportive and neutral as they appeared on the outside, and there is no room for advancement in the company if you are not a part of the inside clique.

The management and workplace culture of this company is absolutely disgusting and horrifying. Manager of group care service has no regard for any of her employees and I feel terrible for the new company she works for. Yells at staff for advocating for the best practices for the clients and targets employees. Manager of the Stony Plain houses isn’t much better. Maybe you wouldn’t have such a hard time keeping staff if you wer didn’t treat them like total trash.

It’s quite unfortunate how management operates. There is no opportunity for advancement in the company unless you are friends with the right people. Seems to be a pattern within the company.. staff who speak up against malpractice by management and shift leads are frequently written up or eventually terminated. At the end of the day, although the staff suffer, the clients suffer the most. Manager of the entire group care is incompetent and treats her inferiors like absolute garbage despite the fact they’ve probably done more work than her in one shift than she has during her entire tenure. Very unfortunate the staff that have the client’s best interest at heart are no longer working there due to toxic environment. If this company ever wants a chance at redeeming themselves they need to wipe out their entire management and upper management completely.

They really listen to what you have to say. I just feel like i do not get paid enough for what i do. However the management does a really great job managing the team

I have never experienced a more toxic work environment in my ten years in group care. Managers yelling at employees for situations out of their control, refusing to apologize once admitting they were wrong, and being unethical in numerous practices - specifically medication administration. If you value your reputation as a child and youth care worker do NOT work here.

It was a useful income while still attending High School. My schedule was flexible. Payment was monthly and sometimes took time to process. It was also challenging work as I had an infant dependant on my care.

I work relief for up and it is ridiculous. Children are not well managed and there is not enough staff to manage. Management should be staying to help when not enough staff are there instead of leaving new people alone without proper training or help

Avoid this company at ALL costs. They do not pay you properly and they do not allow for you to move up on the pay scale. Horrible safety of staff and management is extremely unfair and favor friends. The treatment of clients is horrible and I’m surprised nothing has been done about the NUMEROUS issues despite these issues being brought to the attention of management.

The worst part of this company is the management. Ridiculous how the handle situations. Shift leaders use vulgar and inappropriate language towards frontline staff and are not reprimanded in any form. I absolutely refuse to work for this company again.

Avoid this company at all costs. Management is horrendous especially in the stony plain group homes. Worst company I’ve ever worked for. Stay away if you value your safety. Disgusting how poorly these group homes run. I have never seen such horrible staff and poor treatment of children.

I am a relief worker for this organization. That being said, I find it quite easy to balance my work and personal life, only because I can choose my shifts. The pay is not terrible, but they get you with the taxes.

Shift work is hard but having a great team wot work with makes all the difference. The kids can be really challenging and group care is a stressful field to work in. The organization really cares about the staff and the kids in their care.

Unlimited Potential is really focussed on being a trauma informed organization, they are implementing an evidence based best practice model called the Sanctuary Model. It is not just about how to work with clients but how to work with other staff and be supportive of each other. This is really one of the best places I have ever worked in this field, the benefits are great. Supervisors want every staff to have a self care plan to help prevent burnout in a field where burnout is common. Don't get me wrong it can be stressful work, I am working with kids in group care who have had real struggles in their lives, they don't always want to be there. But the staff and the organization really care about the kids and their families.

Unlimited Potential values are integrity, respect, excellence, humility and relationships but I don't feel that they hold up to there values.They provide good staff training in many different areas. The hardest part of the job is making sure your reports are done on time and all your written case notes are up to date and filed into the ETO data base. The most enjoyable part of the job is working hands on with the families face to face as I believe that is where you make the most difference in there lives and not sitting at a desk doing paper work.

Many people get injured either physically, or psychologically. When you ask for support from your co workers, you don’t get it. People show up and “do their job” but don’t actually care for the well-being of the children/youth. There’s different “teams” you’re put on as full-time staff. Half the time you don’t get all your full time staff, so you have casuals that come in; and we’re not properly trained, so basically their as an extra body. The company seems like a zoo, because for the short period of time I was their, I was never able to attend my courses that I was supposed to take because there was ALWAYS a crisis happening. When you bring up problems to your manager, nothing gets done about it. Nothing changes with these children. There is absolutely no consistency within the teams, so that makes it hard to develop routines for the kids.
