In general, teaching laboratories and homeworks students can get vary tedious, however there is no limitation to how creative you can be when instructing, which makes the work all the more fun! You collaborate a lot with other teaching assistants to understand the students minds, and you learn what course of actions are needed to be taken during special cases (like when correcting homework/midterms). Overrall this job doesn't not have downs, it's a very positive and open work with a lot of communication at hand!
It was great working at the University of Ottawa as a TA. I learned a lot and had a lot of fun. -Helped a Professor teach a hybrid course (20% in class, 80% online) during the fall semester -Answered any questions students had via email -Marked assignments and projects -Gave participation marks to online discussion groups and for homework completion -Conversed with the Professor and told her how the students were doing on assignments and projects throughout the semester -Created tests and quizzes and vocabulary exercises for the Professor to give to the students
The job was excellent for newcomers to Canada, there were lots of learning opportunities. There were teaching and learning training sessions. Professors are were willing to provide mentorship, workspace and tools were accessible. A free intercampus ride was available. Postdoc enjoyed extended health insurance benefits covering eye care, dental and drugs.
Salary was good, but not commensurate with qualification
