At the beginning the hype is great and you are full of energy. Then a few years go by and reality hits you. There are no opportunities until you get permanent and that can take three to four years. By then all motivation and ambition is gone. You will be doing the exact same work as permanent tm for 8 years before you get the exact wage. It is hard work and no attempt is made to make it easier. They will have you take many surveys but will not use the information. Nothing is done until a accident happens. So much drama. If you are a mindless drone you will be fine. Short term is fine but it is not a place for long-term success

Points positifs

Making money during pendemic

Points négatifs

Mandatory overtime, drama, money is not great for today's economy

I told my son to work somewhere else after 20 years of service here

After working here for more than 20 years, my best advice to my son is to seek employment elsewhere. This place is not what it used to be, now management cut benefits, took away health spending account money, reduced vacation entitlement from retiring team members, all without telling us. When people found out and asked, we never received any explanation from management or HR. The company is completely dysfunctional, where self-interest, mistrust, and paranoia run rampant. There are a lot of deep-seated problems, it is only getting worse. 20 years ago, I was proud to tell people i work here, now I don’t want anyone to ask where I work.

Points positifs

Nothing left

Points négatifs

Deceptive communication, unethical management

Toyota Rules 1. Only follow safely rules if you can get the job done on time ( Which you can't) 2. If your trainers makes a mistake or causes you to make one everything is the trainees fault. ( I had 5+ trainers for the same job because of bad management)3. There is a high possibility of your personal vehicle get damaged in the parking lot because its a zoo out there at shift end.4. You will be work rotating shifts we call it day and afternoon but its day and night ( Around 6am until 3pm or later if longer shift and after 5pm until 2am or longer depending on shift)5. We want you to be robots not humans. If you can't do that you will be terminated. The list go on, Very toxic environment with lots of depressed and angry workers that are on modified work because employee safety doesn't matter. Just don't work here.

Points positifs

Money ok & Free safety boots and clothes

Points négatifs

Bad management, Don't care above safety or you, No dental or vision for 3 years

Toyota doesn’t care

Extremely toxic work environment - management only cares about lying to get external awards. “Top Family Friendly Company”? People get punished for taking time off to take care of the family. “Best Diversity Employer”? The biggest joke, people face harassment on a daily basis and get retaliated against when bringing forward the concerns in good faith. The hardest part of the job is swiping in at the gate very morning and seeing the “Toyota Cares” sign, the most enjoyable part of the day is swiping out at the gate to leave the factory.

Be prepared to work your ... you know what off

Yes you get excited to join. Looks great ... but when you watch the crew leaving work they all look so unhappy and tired. The assesment is a 5 hours of torture for you to proof you are like a squirel running and moving. Then the interview conducted by some one who knows nothing about HR. That was a joke to me. Learned something ... the company success is based on the factory staff!!

Points positifs

Clean environment

Points négatifs

Managers and supervisors are not encouraging at all.

Do not apply

There is no work life balance. The hours are long and very repetitive. Management is very unprofessional. They want long hours and a faster pace all while you are wearing a mask. Employees mean nothing. Production, profit, and public image is all they care about. It could be 3 years or more to receive dental care too.

Not a place for a long career

the work is so fast paced and stressfull that you will have no time for anything else, it is a general labour job and takes about 3 years or longer to become a full time employee.

Terrible Place to Work

Overall, you are just a number. They say they are a "family friendly" company, but good luck if you have a spouse and kids. The work is back breaking, and management doesn't care about you at all. The others TMs treat this place like highschool, full of gossip and drama.

Where happiness goes to die

If you want to be miserable then you've found the right place to work. TMMC has been on a downward spiral for several years and just keeps getting worse. They have somehow forgotten how to treat their employees like human beings and will trade your health and safety just to save a few bucks. After a huge hike in the minimum wage, TMMC no longer pays enough to constitute working in an environment such as this.

Points négatifs

Long Hours

Steady job if you can stay healthy

As a contract you're a slave to the company. Do what they say or managers will make things up to get you into trouble. Don't get hurt because the company doesn't have your back. I've been sitting at home waiting fro the company to accomodate me. The money is good but the work is so hard on your body. Long term it's not worth it! Find a career that you can avoid injuries. Remember the pay raise is on a 10 year plan.

Quickly turning into a sweatshop for contracts

After a decade, when you reach full wage and full vacation, the deal’s not too bad, but you start on contract (which you can expect to last almost 4 years nowadays) at only 60% of full wage and an even smaller fraction of the benefits/vacation. Some people do hit the jackpot and get placed (and stay in) easier areas (QC, plastics, a couple lines in weld/press, final line/repair) with decent management, but you’re far more likely to end up in assembly, suspension, or paint with callous management and gloomy coworkers. So if you don’t mind busting your rear end doing mind numbingly repetitive, back breaking work on rotating shifts with management that thinks you’re a spoiled crybaby, all while living close to poverty and getting very little time off, then this is the job for you. And then if you don’t mind reaching the 10 year mark still doing the same gruelling work but now locked in by the money because you’ve got no transferable skills, then even better. Otherwise, keep your health and sanity and find a slightly less lucrative, but much more bearable job.

Downhill Slide

Toyota was once a very good place to work and as a result it took years of waiting to get in the door. The starting pay was solid and the path to full-time and full rate was relatively short. I've been here better than a decade, I can honestly say at the current starting wage and with the long-term prospects for TMMC remaining in operation more than another decade being slim, DO NOT APPLY! Management is filled with liars who have no other goals in life than to move into the next position and to buy another stupid thing. They treat you as if they've done you a favour by employing you, and will destroy your body with repetitive work and rotating shifts. They even lobbied the government to allow auto workers only 7 ELOA days when the rest of the province gets 10. They do not care about you, and as a result their churn or turnover rate is now so obscene they are scrambling to get new people in the door. I waited 2+ years after sending in my application to get interviewed, if you apply now you can start tonight. Think about it.

Everything else, especially management.

Mindless repetition and horrible shift rotation

Line jobs are horrible and Takt time (timeframe to do job process) is inhuman. Literally inhuman, these jobs are meant for robots and eventually will be taken over by automation. Pay gets better the longer you stay but there is a price. Not worth it in my opinion. Be warned.

Points positifs

Steady secure paycheque.

Points négatifs

Takes a toll on your life.

Don't be fooled, NOT a family friendly employer

This place is a great place to work if you are early 20's with no spouse or kids. The hours are never standard, the "afternoon" shift hours are ridiculous, and don't ever ask for an approved day off for a family function, (ie. If your kid is involved in extra curricular activities, don't tell them that is why you need the day off... You will be denied and then if you are denied and call in, automatic corrective action.). Was told by group leaders to lie when calling in so they did not have to write me up. Always call in family illness. Also don't expect to choose which plant you work at... If you live in Cambridge and get stuck in Woodstock or vice versa, they won't care if you are falling asleep at the wheel driving 40 mins + home... Waited many years to move to the plant in my city and kept getting denied because my versatility was needed on my line, or market condition doesn't require plant movement... Although there are always new contracts being hired in all 3 plants. The company is about transparent as mud. No one likes working there, they are just stuck living the lifestyle and can not afford to leave. TMMC has become a revolving door for employees.. good luck!

Resist the temptation of money over the health of your body & mind!

Money: for anyone who starts now it's a fraction of what it once was & you will not be a permanent employee(with benefits/holidays) for minimum 3 years. By then your body will begin to break down from the repetitive, jarring, awkward body positions. Which the company will do their very best to deny any claims of injury resulting from the work, letalone care about your pain or you in general. Environment: tends to be negative & toxic; mentally & emotionally wearing depending on coworkers & management in your area. It's high school, except you are surrounded by bullies with no escape. Human resources is probably the worst. I suggest audio recording ANY & ALL conversations with HR or management(GL, AM, etc.), definitely beneficial evidence for any probable future litigation. They erase their pen-written notes of what you say that is damaging to them. You are only a number & easily replaceable...definitely the common feeling amongst employees. Work: keeping pace is strenuous, no time for a sip of water unless the line stops or you ask a TL to step in for a car. Bathroom breaks are frowned upon, with threat of being written up. Ambient temperatures are hot(winter) & hotter(summer), no fans or very little circulation to help cool your body temperature. If you do choose to work here or you already do, I suggest investing in a cooling vest; like the military would wear in desert atmospheres. Work-life balance: slightly improved with afternoon Saturday overtime being spread through the week instead of the short turn around, based on the body's learned circadian rhythm. It -

Points positifs

Money & benefits, if you make it to getting hired permanently. Easy, work. Best to keep to yourself for most pleasant work experience.

Points négatifs

Low employee morale, mindless, physically demanding work, incredibly hot in conjunction with trying to keep up pace & ambient temperature, intimidating atmosphere/management.
