I worked inn the ENT clinic in the morning and the Library in the afternoon. I got to interact with patients and their parents, which was difficult at times but rewarding. I got to read to and play with children, as well as work organising filed and doing admin.
Basically door to door selling of charity programs. Training is done professionally and you have to perform like real employees. The sad part is you don't receive any privileges or honorariums for your service.
to get in this position was hard because there were many requirements and needs for this. Overall i had a good time at Sick Kinds Hospital. I had many memories there because i grew up there meaning that i was in and out of the hospital. i was treated really well and i was fond of the environment.
Coming from a family with a history of diabetes. The opportunity arose to help organize events for children as a group activity, and as a result i got to work with many enjoyable people and was able to bring smiles to the faces of many young children.
I am part of study for SickKids, for the finding a cure program for type diabetes. So i had chances to help with the study and other activity's SickKids an JDRF ( junior Diabetes Research Foundation). I help out with walkathons, fundraisers and other programs that happen. I worked with a few other teenagers around my age for about three months at a time. Everyone who ran the program was very welcoming, making me wish i could work with them more. The hardest part was just getting back and fourth to SickKids or where ever they had planned a program or a activity, but the best part was teach younger children who just got diagnosed with Type One diabetes, what it is and how they can help to take care of it. I helped children learn how to count carbohydrates and give themselves their insulin.
meeting new people, Learning about Diabetes, free meals
This was a volunteer position at Sick Kids Hospital. I learned how to develop my positive communication skills as well as my multitasking abilities. It is the most amazing place to volunteer. There is so much love, teamwork and compassion throughout the hospital, which makes my experience much more memorable.
Handle mail, write out appointment cards, order supplies, file and send faxes Providing clerical support to all health care staff by preparing clinic rooms and assist in directing patient and their families into these rooms Place reminder calls to families of upcoming appointments. Assist in meeting the needs of the patients and their families by answering general questions parents may have when the secretaries are busy
great, amazing staff that care about each and every patients
I personally enjoyed volunteering at Sick Kids because of the great and fun things there is to do there, on a regular i would come in and sanitize all the toys then bring the kids in to play and do all sorts of things like arts and crafts, watch movies, play video games, and just hang out. I learned that even if your stuck in one place it doesn't mean you can't have fun, i liked all of my co-workers and staff because they made me feel apart of everything and was very friendly which made me feel so much better. The hardest part of the job was trying to explain to the kids everything will be okay but maybe i was wrong because i never knew how they felt and what they have been through. One thing i enjoyed about the job was just being with people and having a great time.
