Needs more coaching with helping other departments

Enjoyed working there. HD appreciates your availability, but doesn't look favorably when situations arise that prevent you from going to work. They should have a slush fund of associates who want to be on call to fill in. These associates would need cross training but a person who can help you is better than nothing. That person has resources to get required info. Complaints of not enough staff is the #1 concern. It is also dictated by sales and the economy.

Points positifs

Special days, feature days could be funny hats, dress up..., bbqs, pancake breakfasts, birthday cake for that months birthdays, there is an emphasis on training to make associates knowledgeable and able to be discretionary

Points négatifs

Lack of communication. Most associates are part time and are not always made aware of new, changes, etc

A bitter sweet experience: perfect for the right people

The company takes care of their employees. You will never be shouted at. Salary is barely enough to get by and it is advised to have a second job. Work hours can be hectic and therefore part time work is recommended. Working full time you won’t have energy to do much with your life after your job.

Points positifs

Amazing supportive environment

Points négatifs

Salary, career progression

Great working environment, great location at such time that I lived in Burnaby

It was a fun workplace because back then, I happened to be with a group of equally nice co-workers who shared the same thoughts, ideals and interests. Support from immediate supervisors was consistent.

Points positifs

Great middle management support

Points négatifs

Very low pay with no chance to become permanent

Fun place to work, friendly coworkers

Friendly workers and customers, enjoy the atmosphere and the physical work. Scheduled hours are sometimes random, but they are open for some flexibility. Lots of training available and possibilities to cross train in other departments.

Rough end be to

I value and appreciate this company for employing and providing me with the opportunity to work with their corporation. Excelled significantly in the sales targets. Unfortunately the disease of addiction. As most would classify it took over my life which resulted in a LOA. Particularly in a corporation as substantially huge as it portrays it self they were reluctant to offer any sort of treatment program as stated in the HR handbook is suggested especially for job security The management within the business were all well aware of the struggles I was venturing into on a reoccurring basis. It dis satisfies me to realise how lack of care and compensation health wise that joint has. They are not unionized which they should be I was hired at 13 something an hour meanwhile a lady in my department was making 60 cents over the minimum wage at the time (so she says) and back then that was 10.70 and she had been employed there for 5+ years (don't quote me on that) Discussion in wages amongst the employees was forbidden and could result in immediate dismissal as my floor supervisor schooled me on that part of the job. Most leads were valued minimum 2500 and upwards in to 90000 to 100000 per family unit ... No commission pay out per sold installs nothing which was a little discouraging. It was not be easy but work is work and you gotta do what you gotta do to put food in your childr3nes mouths

Points positifs

No drama, team players, had each other's backs

Points négatifs

Health care, horrible choice in HR hiring.

I've Lost My Patience Here

Management supports full-timers and "lifers", but part-time associates feel expendable. The "Homer Awards" require a nomination and, thus, are never handed out fairly. They hire a lot of people who are unqualified and sometimes refuse to let go of them even when they know the fact. I used to like working here, but have since changed my mind drastically. I no longer feel any support from management, I feel like a part-timer is never listened to in town-hall meetings, and I feel that if you work part-time, they just see you as someone to fill an apron. It feels toxic. If you don't want to read the above, the short answer is to not work at The Home Depot.

Points positifs

Make schedule requests online

Points négatifs

Part-timers are expendable IMO

I was employed at the Home Depot for seven years and worked in three different stores. Each transfer to another store got me closer to home.

My first job in the retail industry, very fast paced and rewarding. I started in the Flooring department, followed by the Paint department, then on to seasonal and ending at the Special Services/Returns desk. The Home Depot training program was incredible with great instructors and class room/hands on training. Unfortunately they've now gone to computer pod training that doesn't really give one the personal or hands on training that they used to give. Left the Home Depot to work as a Service Representative after being offered a position in that field.

Numbers-focused rather than employee-focused

My time at Home Depot was on a part-time basis. However, "part-time" doesn't seem to mean the same thing at Home Depot as it does at other places. I either worked 30-35 hours a week or 8-10 hours a week, rarely did I ever work the 20 hour preferred work week (due to personal obligations). Scheduling was a significant factor in me leaving the organization. Requests to change your availability to regain some control over your life were denied time after time. You are expected to work every single Saturday and Sunday. The rare Saturday or Sunday that you do get off is considered a miracle. Your department will either have 1 person working prime rush hours and struggling to keep up with the backlog of customers waiting for you as their impatience grows, or there are 5 of you standing around on a Sunday morning. Very inconsistent and oblivious scheduling system. Focused on VOC (Voice of Customer) and daily sales targets, but the satisfaction of employees is never a number that's brought up. Benefits are always a good bonus. However, this doe's not make up for the minimum wage you get for such a physically and mentally draining work environment.

Points positifs

Benefits, front-line associates

Points négatifs

Scheduling, pay, management

electric associate

They do extensive training and are a fair employer. I was shifted to a 5 am start which |I found to be a bit of a hardship but also gave a full day free at end of work.

Character building job during a pivotol point in my life

Waking up at 3 am to start work for 4 am. Lifting heavy objects/boxes and restocking store. Also operated heavy machinery and pump trucks. I learned what it meant to work hard and also learned a lot about different types of equipment and products used in homes. Management was really nice and extremely helpful in teaching product knowledge. My co-workers were great people who made waking up at 3 am for work easier than expected. The hardest part of the job was the hours worker. I had to adjust my sleeping schedule accordingly. The most enjoyable part of the job was the people I worked with. The fulfillment team was comprised of a group of 8 individuals with great personalities.

Points positifs

great co-workers

Points négatifs

early hours
