Productive and Supportive Workplace

The most enjoyable part of my job, is the team work, and the support from management. It is very laid back and your goals are clearly aligned with the job requirements. Learn something new everyday!

Use to be fantastic, shift in management has made it go downhill

5-10 years ago i would have recommended working here in a heartbeat. Through Covid and a change in management direction, its become more of a selfish work environment then a inclusive one. The stress is all on workers, management as a whole only look after themselves. The workers themselves are fantastic

Good workplace to start

small office and slow at turning, but overall nice and friendly staff. Management was good but could be better or if they higher and outsider just for training purposes.

Nice and fun

I had a wonderful experience working for this insurance company as a financial advisor. The management team was incredibly supportive, providing extensive training and resources to help me succeed in my role. The work environment was dynamic and collaborative, which fostered a sense of camaraderie among colleagues. Additionally, the company's commitment to excellence and customer satisfaction was evident in every aspect of its operations. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a rewarding career in the insurance industry.

Great

It’s great to work at Cooperators, helping to sell and service insurance policies. There is on the job learning available, so even starting at low position such as reception you can work you way up. Overtime you get to know your clients well, and can recommend many great insurance products.

Company provides nice diverse experience and social fun.

What is the best part of working at the company?Well established with rich history economically stable company. 37- Hour week with flexible and possibility of hybrid hours. Lots of social activity. What is the most stressful part about working at the company?Rigid status quo combined with widely spread nepotism and fraternizing makes it nearly impossible to build a carrier. What is the work environment and culture like at the company?Depending on the office. It is professional, all-inclusive and supportive in Mississauga. Can be quite toxic in Guelph. What is a typical day like for you at the company?Come in, login, work through the tasks, get help when you need it, provide help when others need it. Two 15-min breaks and lunch-break provide tons of opportunity for socializing.

Nice people and company culture

My office manager is super nice as well as my colleague. Working pace is not too quick and business load is not too much. You may have work and life balance and options to work from home with some locations.

Meh

Good benefits, lacks work/life balance and is hard to grow within the company. For the most part supervisors are helpful, also the company is cheap when it comes to increases of pay.

Good overall

The work itself is fine and lots of fun social events to attend if you like that. Pay is poor and my manager wouldn’t do anything when I had issues with my coworkers.

Great Potential Poor Execution

I write this review as someone who was looking to build a financial planning practice and joined Co-operators when they were launching CFIS, their mutual funds business. I liked the idea of being able to offer investments and protection products to satisfy financial plans. The life insurance products are competitive, both in price and features, and the mutual fund shelf is pretty good, featuring the likes of Fidelity, Mackenzie, SEI etc. I was also attracted by the timing - getting in on the ground floor of something new and being able to being my almost 2 decades of experience to the table. So far so good but, unfortunately, that is where the good ends.It was my impression that the company had started CFIS more as a "side hustle" than anything serious. Their financial planning software is laughably simplistic, with no hint after almost 4 years that they are looking to upgrade it. Their back office is a joke - they cannot accept eletronic in kind transfers, for example. With some notable exceptions, the back office is poorly trained and show little desire to improve. Management, both of CFIS and certainly locally, leave a lot to be desired. Some of them have risen to the top through means other than talent or track record. Others simply do not seem to possess the requisite knowledge to be in such positions. And none realize that they need to build processes to convert transactional interactions, such as you get with auto and home clients, into wealth prospects.I would note that agency owners are different and many of them are to be admired but all of them have to put up -

No matter how much you do or how long you have been there, you are just a number at the end. There is no loyalty.

What is the best part of working at the company? The company benefits and pension planWhat is the most stressful part about working at the company? The management are all micromanagers. The ones that have moved up the ranks within the company have extremely poor management skills. The compensation is under par for the amount of work that is expected. They are known to overwork their staff. Very high expectations. I was there for many years in many areas, it’s the same in all areas What is the work environment and culture like at the company? It is okay. Some of the staff are very competitive and love drama. It makes for an uncomfortable workplace. You see clear favouritism of management for some staff. What is a typical day like for you at the company? From the moment you start to the end you are busy. Rarely take breaks or lunch. The office is hybrid so can be lonely & quiet

Fabulous company

Good opportunities if you want them in all different departments. If you to advance you can. Lots of learning opportunities that are paid and supported.

Great place to start

It's been a good experience to work at the company, they have limited offices throughout the country, although one of the best service providers in the insurance industry

treats employees well

Definitely walks the walk on their desire to treat their staff well. They need to work on clearer processes and better training but overall a nice place to work.
