Great company, if you can avoid the snakes

The company ethics and morals are great. The work-life balance is good, although you may have to stay extra hours sometimes (as in most jobs). Colleagues are great and supportive for the most part. Teamwork is emphasized and supported to the core. The main issue stems from the fact that there are back-stabbers in the company. The company often conducts employee reviews, collecting information behind your back about you from both colleagues and supervisors. This offers the potential for people who feel job insecure with lots of ammunition to have you laid off if they need to. The environment is competitive. You are pitched against your colleagues for performance and ratings. The pay is decent, and the benefits are great. If you intend to work at Telus, do what you are told. Keep your head low, and don't seek attention to yourself. Don't seek advancement unless you are absolutely certain you are more important than other colleagues looking for the same position. Senior members of the same position often think they are above you, and make it known. Act as if they are, and never question them. They have the ability to make your life miserable, and get you kicked out within the span of a week. Speaking from personal experience.

Sell Sell Sell

I worked for over 14 years as a Service Technician. The job was great in the beginning. The last couple of years the focus shifted from providing good quality customer experience to high pressure sales tactics and taking advantage of seniors. Upper management has been targeting and terminating techs with low sales with little to no response from the union. Customer service agents often stole sales from the techs when adding products or services (the agents themselves are also under immense pressure to meet unrealistic sales targets). The Director's and Executives promote unethical sales tactics like lying to customers to close sales. Example: "Did you hear about all the break-ins in the neighborhood? You should get our security service to protect yourself and your loved ones." If you have a tech visit you for a repair, the first thing they will do is push more products and services on you. Disgusting company.

Poor management

I should have know from previious experience with Telus employees in BC that it was a horrible place to work. My direct manager had no knowledge of the work their Technicians performed and provided zero feedback before terminating me for in my opinion wasunjust cause. Union politics are very prevalent with this company.

Technician role

The pay and benefits are good. thats about it. there is always an ask to do more than youre being asked to do. ideas are put in place that dont need to be. the technician role is beginning to incorporate sales as well . its all about numbers, which makes sense with it being a for profit business. you are just a scorecard though.

Terrible company, terrible values

Worked in many different roles over 9 years. Was also company first, customers/employees last. As soon as you reach thier top rate they start trying to buy you out. I was hareased for 3 years befor I'd had enough. In a better trade now. I wouldn't work for these trolls if at all possible.

Great employer

Telus has an excellent training program for their customer solutions delivery team. Great benefits, over time is double time. The only downside was that you cannot take any vacation in the first twelve months of employment

The future is not friendly

The company monitors every single person via gps. If you get sick, you’re still required to work the 8 hours that day. Even if all your tickets are completed. You can not reduce your hours below 8 hours without a day of doctors note. The group I worked with was super friend based, and if you didn’t fit it your opinion became invalid. Overall would suggest steering clear of company.

Bottom line is the objective

Started out as a positive experience but the focus became more about the bottom line than about the customer. Part of their corporate message is work life balance but their constant pressure to work overtime sends a different message. If you're not liked by management they will make your life miserable and push you out. Best piece of advice is don't have an opinion about anything even when asked... keep your head down mouth shut and aide in furthering the managers agenda. Lots of politics and and no advancement opportunities within the city.

Not Good

I had a horrible experience at my time with Telus. I did enjoy my role, but I felt continually belittled and harassed by my superior. When going to their superior, I ended up being the one in trouble. I tried going to labour board, but being that everything was done verbally, they could not help. I ended up taking a stress leave to just come back and have it worse. So I had to make the decision to leave the company. Although, I did enjoy my day to day tasks.

Used to be good.

Used to be focused on providing excellent service, now focused on revenue generation. Travel time between jobs is insufficient, time to complete jobs is insufficient. This leads to work being rushed.

Amazing Company

TELUS trains technicians and all employees in the work place. Very hands on, very detailed and it's paid. Tons of fun, the benefits were amazing. The other team members are what make it. Management is also very supportive and takes care of it's team members. Infinite room to develop and move on. TELUS will cover costs of learning/extra training if needed as well.

Very good product, very poor treatment

the general word on the street is that telus does not treat its customers that great, not bad, but not great. well be that as it may, they treat their employees a whole lot worse, at least in edmonton and when i was there...wow almost a decade ago....well perhaps they have gotten better but, well, i dont really care so moving on.

Horrible employer

A pale shadow of what once was. Greedy shareholders and a failure to implement new R&D have left them on life support. Miserly, inflexible, and incompetent / disconnected upper management make this an employer to stay away from, or watch them very, very closely.
