Telus has great people and a great atmosphere, however the jobs have been outsourced over the last few years, there are fewer and fewer full time positions available. Hours get cut in many departments due to outsourcing causing agents who have worked there for 5-10+ years to find a secondary job. Shift work is very hard for a work life balance, something that is lacking at Telus. Most of the positions that give you a good schedule are on loan, and short term. They do not have much understanding for you when you do have health issues that come up. Ex. surgeries, cancer, MS.
If you can handle shift work (working late evenings, weekends, and holidays) and have no health concerns this would be a good place to work, the people are fantastic

TELUS is very much an abusive organization. Way to many ppl have been there way to long and they have roles they should not be in. Nepotism is HUGE in TELUS so be careful who you talk to.

Management is NOT accountable. The customer service is terrible, no training and belittled if you don't know something and you ask questions.

Upside, it's a remote work place so you work from home mostly and on the road when meeting clients.

They don't care. Period.

The only good thing about working for Telus is the pay & benefits - basically $$$$. Sometimes you're lucky enough to be working around some nice teammates.
Other then that middle management is useless in most cases. Upper management is either complicit with this uselessness or they are just plain ignorant/ blind to it. They micro-manage, bully, intimidate, play favorites, inconsistent with holding people accountable to KPI's. Some people can float in 3 mins late all the time & are never disciplined, and others are 1 min late & get written up. I witnessed a team member literally stealing company time & not calling in sick or leaving early without proper coding. It wasnt their first time & they only got a suspension. Its ridiculous. If Telus wants to make an example out of you, they will - so you work having to 'look over your shoulder' all the time.
I havent even touched on the internal politics, horrible internal systems that are never properly fixed, offshoring, etc.

It's a great school for work.
You learn a lot from anyone no matter their position you get something out of everyone.
You can make great friends for life.
It's somethings demanding when you work on the phones because you have to provide good quality and quantity. You have to learn to balance the two.
The most enjoyable part of work is your co-workers and the clients you talk to on a daily basis.
New software and technology are interesting at Telus, they innovate a lot internally to make the job easier, even tho sometimes it doesn't work well.
Management can be at 2 poles, they can be great or painful, what is counterproductive at Telus is micromanagement.
Favoritism and clans are something you will see a lot.
My advice is to stay neutral, stay away from drama, do the work, participate in fun activities, don't take too much initiative, just enough and give yourself goals to level up after 2 or 3y at the most.
Learn and take position it will benefit you after you move to other ventures.

Management Woes
CSR - Customer Service Representative (Ancien employé) –  Barrie, Ontario14 avril 2019
I liked the job. It was a good job. That being said they hire part-time and offer overtime 'sometimes'. They offer additional shifts as well and it's important to know the difference. The additional shifts are paid normally while overtime is paid differently.

They are on people about the queue and trying to clear it because people can wait up to an hour to get to you and obviously that will upset people. However, they don't bring enough people to work for those hours.

On top of it, your stats don't really matter. They will have goals for you and that is important for your yearly bonus but it won't matter if you are under your KPI's, you will still be investigated and written up for not using your KPI's how they want you too. So if your talk time is too low, they will force you to listen to 10-15 of your own calls and ask you what you did wrong before telling you all the things you could have done to sell things.

Management is brutal. I would love working there if it wasn't for them.

I have been working at TELUS full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

- Working from home options
- Good salary, pension, benefits and stock ops

Cons

- Treat union workers (who work the hardest) with the least amount of respect
- the company has bought out the union so the union no longer cares about those union workers and their jobs
- many jobs are getting passed on to India and Philippines including project managers
- poor judgment for upper management to just come in and make changes without knowing the jobs that people do
- technicians who do the physical work are being replaced by contractors so union jobs can be cut
- no value for hard working employees

Advice to Management

Management needs to learn to value the smaller union employees who have made Telus a billion dollar company. Without our hard work Telus would not be where it is today. Charity begins at home. Cutting jobs and outsourcing while making big news donating millions to charity just for a tax break misleads the people of Canada as to what Telus really stands for.

amazing company to work for

I was in the loyalty and retentions deptartment, where i am speaking with clients over the phone to help with saving them from switching to a competitor, or upgrading the clients services and products. fast paced, trying to get to as many customers as possible so they arent waiting on hold, finding a solution for each customers request on the phone at the moment.

Good company - some challenges

Telus is a good company that offers great benefits, and a collaborative team environment.
Some great coworkers that are fun and helpful and make coming into the office fun.
Lots to learn - busy role and never a dull moment.
Had the opportunity to work with some fantastic clients.
Training provided that was top notch and something you can use in other organizations.
Lots of job stress in this role.
Management - I have a mixed review here as have had both great and poor experience with management changes.
Expectation was to be in the office Mon - Thurs - work from home was not encouraged or supported yet the tools Telus offers to their clients encourages the WFH ideology.
