Treat people bad, lie, favouritism, degrade some people, this is what happens at TC Energy if you are working in the field office. No one cares about anything, lots of dishonest billing by contractors

Company working towards changing reputation. Does not follow through with direction given to employees. Each for their own.

Wages and benefits are top notch but there has been a lack of respect for employees since 2015 and layoffs continue despite record profits. A soul sucking, negative environment.

TC Energy is a great company I had the pleasure of working for. They are an open arms company allowing everyone to be given the chance to excel and succeed. I was there for 4 weeks on a practicum and I was able to absorb a lot! Some of the things I learned were, Power BI, Visio, SAP, iRIMS and SharePoint. I was given the task of organizing 2 file rooms electronically as well as physically labeling. Another task was to create and update the existing Huddle Board which I was able to do along side create a real time task manager to be used by the team. The task manager brought back updated tasks that the team is working on and it populated graphs and charts for ease of viewing.

I started in 2006 when the company was under different leadership. It was great. You were encouraged to take courses that helped advance your career. Then Hal left.
The new upper management is just about $$ and not the people. They move managers around so much, they don't get to know their teams or jobs before they are moved again. Bad management = less productive teams & individual employees.

I have my own office and learn everyday. Involved in meetings with various technical groups / stakeholders. Answer e-mails and technical queries. Manage, schedule and maintain assets within the company. Manage fabrication projects. Manage project turnover documents and file for record keeping. Approve purchase orders for materials and various vendors/ third parties. As-built Redline drawings and manage drafting complete. Improve pfds, procedures, processes and troubleshooting.. Employee training / couses for career development. Show value added and cost savings for employee performance review.

TransCanada used to be a great employer, however it is now facing several issues. Everyone understands the nature of the industry; the turbulent energy environment, however TC's issue is beyond that.

Here is the issue:

1) Constant Layoffs even when the market appears to be stabilizing in 2019, disrupts the whole experience of work and teams

2) Promoting young employees who have been at TC for a fairly long time to management positions is a good idea, "BUT" only if they possess the necessary management skills. Who said someone that has been with TC for 7 or 8 years, can automatically be a good manager? Isn't management a science by itself?

3) There is a side to many O&G companies that many people don't see; The Contractors !!!!! Nowadays many Contractors are brought in, with rates much lower than what a Contractor used to charge, and these people unfortunately will never become Core Full-Time Staff (companies try to control Fixed Costs), and they eventually have to leave the company.

4) TC has a top-down management/culture. This approach can negatively impact employees' originality, destroy their engagement, and eliminate the ability of a company to a just/fair succession plan for each vacant position that comes up (AKA: what others on indeed called "the Old Boys Club Culture")

5) Constant criticism, or in other words "leaders knowingly OR unknowingly undervaluing their employees" is a classic textbook mistake that many leaders make at TC

If you are an educated, motivated, and dedicated jobseeker reading my comment, then you want to think this through,
  plus... and very thoroughly. There are many great people at TC, many smart software and applications, the Core Employee bonus/pay is good, BUT the "Culture" of a company is the most important element !!!!!  moins

I worked here for 5 years in a variety of roles and at first it was a very fun and I enjoyed coming to work. However in the past few years there have been major changes and the remaining leadership is the terrible and incompetent, from the top down. The culture is very toxic and stressful, and unfortunately poor behaviour is encouraged and even rewarded. Stay away if you enjoy an inclusive workplace where you feel valued and rewarded. Apart from the pay and great benefits, there is not much good left in this company (sadly).
