Tapestry Arbutus is an amazing place to work with a fun job culture and lots of career advancement opportunities. The best part of my day is making connections with the residents. Working full time, a typical workday for myself could be in the concierge, housekeeping or food and beverage department(s). Management is understanding and incredibly supportive of anyone who expresses their desire to grow in the company. I consider my management team to be some of the best people in the hospitality industry. I have learned so much invaluable knowledge form having the opportunity to work in multiple departments.

Fun and friendly workplace

The concierge position is the central point of contact for residents, staff and family members. It is busy and interesting - no two work days are the same. My fellow employees are friendly and helpful. All staff greet each other by name. The residents are interesting, lively and so appreciative of any assistance. The best part of this job is helping residents. The management team appreciates of my work. I work part time but I am included in all training and employee recognition. In this fast paced job I have learned to prioritize tasks. Staff from other departments are always willing to help out, if needed. I am given latitude to make my own decisions. I am also given the same training opportunities as full time staff.

Beautiful Location and Wonderful Residents, but Management Challenges

Working at Tapestry was a unique experience. The building was absolutely beautiful and the space design could not have provided a more pleasant atmosphere to work in. The residents were so kind, caring and just genuinely nice people. At times they provided challenges, but more often than not they were more concerned about how the staff was doing than anything else.The management at Tapestry provided many challenges to employees however and did not create a pleasant or productive work environment. The turn-over rate at this location was alarming and management did not hear employees suggestions, concerns or comments ever. They enforced a STRICT hierarchy and encouraged workers to get in line, or find other employment. There was no opportunity to advance within this location, nor was there any incentive to provide outstanding work. New ideas were quickly dismissed, reprimanded or simply ignored. Furthermore, my situation grew quite concerning when my manager refused to provide contact details for our HR company and refused to respect employee-manager confidentiality. My manager would often share very private conversations with other managers and it was not clear that I could trust them. Things at this location grew too frightening for me to stay.
