Used to be a great place

Having worked there for 10 years is no joke. The place used to be an amazing experience everyday. I would mostly end up not using my vacation days as I enjoyed working there because of the people, culture and management. But ever since it was bought out by Scotia everything turned upside down. It used to be great but not anymore.

They micromanage employees without any management direction. They do annual reviews that makes employees think they earned something. But it really means nothing. As they can change your role to entry level without any reason apart from the fact that Scotia bank took over. Management is either dishonest or clueless, trying to assure you that "your jobs are safe" but they can let you go anytime (which happened right away after Scotia take over). Favoritism is the new culture unfortunately apparent and experienced it too.On phones there is a line up of never ending calls. Even managers and operations have to jump on calls. No forecasting or in proper words no management. Some managers portray themselves as some kind of Pharaoh.

Bonuses are peanuts and hard to achieve now.
If it was 7-8 years ago, I'd have my children work there, but now I would'nt even refer my mother in law to work there.

The only good thing about the place that has always been there is its people (employees). Management is mostly zombie-mode and has to follow a path drawn from up above regardless of what goes around them. Oh yes.. and free parking is great too. If you need a part time job, then go for it, but its not something I'd recommend anymore after my experience.

The workplace culture is uneven at best, and tiered at worst. If you're an Economist, you're treated with the most respect. All other employees are second class in this respect. There is a heavy emphasis on repeating the same taglines about the Bank's culture and how great of a place it is to work, and little in the way of enforcing it. Innovation is encouraged as much as the direct manager agrees with the innovation presented. New ideas are not encouraged unless they are approved by middle-management, which will work employees (Especially contracted employees) to their absolute limit.

I worked at tangerine bank for a little over 2 years. thank god I found a much better paying job! you are overworked and underpaid and not given good job security or flexibility. The environment is toxic and uncomfortable if you can find somewhere else to work

The company culture was great until the new HR transition. Everything kind of went downhill from there. They became very sale oriented and focus lesser on employee/employer relationships. It became very segregated as lower level employees no longer felt welcome and as a substantial part of the team. It is also very Toronto focused, meaning if you don't work in the main Toronto location (Steeles), you don't receive as many perks or incentives.
