Server (Ancien employé) – Port Moody, BC – 30 mai 2017
Typical day is 12+ hours with no overtime paid. Employer is cheap and ridiculously under staffs even on the busiest days of the year. On any typical shift you would find that the store was out of supplies (ie, toilet paper, chopsticks) or out of change in the register. On several occasion I had to go out on my own time, go to the bank and bring change in. Another incident was when a co-worker paid the restaurant next door for some supplies, out of his own pocket; not only was he not reimbursed, the employer was having a bad day and took it out on him over something ridiculous. Employer gets away with the absolute disregard for the BC Employment Standards Act because they exploit immigrants and high school students who don't know any better. Only plus side is that with working alone most days, you get to keep the majority of the tips making an hourly wage of around $16+. However, no amount of money is worth working at an establishment with no integrity. It became so ridiculous that half of the servers including myself left. I have never talked poorly about my employers in the past but this was such a horrible experience that I had to share.
