An okay place to work.

I worked graveyard shift stocking shelves and doing daily price changes and signage for targeted product items. I prefer to work autonomously and that is mostly dependant upon the current management team supervising any given shift. They are a union environment so unless you are management you will be paid according to contractual agreements. I liked it mainly because it was minimal interaction w/ the public so minimal interruptions.

Points positifs

- free food on occasion, staff discount should employees wish to shop

Points négatifs

- working p/t it takes awhile to earn enough hours to receive the next pay increase

Unfair to new employees

This was my first ever job—the interview went well, the people who helped me fill out forms and such were friendly. Orientation was less exciting, and was only just sitting in front of a computer for over 4 hours with no tour of the store whatsoever.I worked in the bakery department, and most of the staff were friendly, albeit low in numbers. I thought I was getting the hang of the job until I get told I was being let go because I wasn’t efficient enough on my fifth day, while still in training. Don’t get me started on contacting management about your schedule; they had me booked 4 days in a row for 2 weeks at least before they let me go, one of those being an 8 hour shift. I had emailed my boss about it but they never got back to me about it.

Points positifs

Okay staff

Points négatifs

Short-staffed, poor communication

Stressful, Poor management, Unorganized

Management is unorganized with their schedule and always change it last minute or give 40 hours to students in high school, putting to much on their young staff. Management expect you to go above and beyond when all they do is go on their phone and spend hours writing the schedule. Staff gossip like we are teenagers and honestly just makes for a horrible work environment because there isnt one good person there at all.

Points positifs

nothing

Points négatifs

Expected to stay late if busy, Schedule change last minute, rude staff and rude managers

Only robots need apply

1. Had to follow up a few times when I was hired to find out when my actual first day was - finally found someone who could provide this info. They didn't seem too interested in getting me started.2. Orientation was poor - a whirlwind of computer-based courses onsite while the Superstore representative disappears and is unavailable for questions / support.3. Want to get to know your co-workers and improve morale? Forget it. This is frowned upon.4. Clocked out a few minutes late because I needed to make sure my work station was clean - was reprimanded. I guess employee time entry was more important that public food safety.5. Was let go because I wasn't "fast enough" - even though I always reached my quota of what needed to get done. Up to that point there was no constructive feedback on how I could improve.

Points positifs

Good benefits but only available after 6 months

Points négatifs

Management would rather criticize than give feedback on how to improve

Bad Management And Poor Pay

Although there where a few good managers, many of them where harsh and critical. I never felt comfortable at superstore I always felt at any moment I would get in trouble for something small. I understand there is lots of staff but I never felt appreciated.

Points positifs

Different Departments

Points négatifs

Bad Management, Little Pay

Not the best workplace

If you are someone who needs to constantly be moving around & staying productive, then a cashier position is not for you. Staff and customers are rude. Staff only acknowledge you if you pick up some extra shifts, otherwise you’re just another employee to them. No good morning, hello, great job today. Horrible communication on what’s going on in the store. Very unorganized.

Points positifs

Discount

Points négatifs

Rude customers

If you have any responsibilities outside of work, dont bother

At Superstore, theres something called "Restricted hours", and "Unrestricted hours". Restricted means you are unable to work certain hours/days of the week. Unrestricted means you can work anytime of the week. When you are restricted, you are given 4-8 hours a week. 12 if you are SUPER lucky. This allows NO room for any responsibilities outside of work, if you're looking for anything more than two 4 hour shifts a week. Even if you have to give up a few hours on a sunday for religious purposes, this brings you from 24 hr/week down to 8 hr/week. Superstore sets an incredibly ridiculous expectation where, either you give ALL your time, or none of your time. Very unprofessional, and ignorant regarding peoples personal lives.Managers sometimes tell you "You dont sound sick" when you call in to let them know you arent able to work a certain day.Supervisors are a hit or miss. How a work day will go really depends on who's working. Either the day will be laid back and chill, or you'll be scolded for going to the bathroom, which speaks for itself. Often customers are more understanding and comforting than the supervisors. In summary, if you're a student, dont expect too much support here. The useless union fees take away over 10% of your paycheck (sometimes 20%, depending on how much they decide to take from you -_- ). Most of the fellow cashiers are very nice, but some of them clearly hate their jobs. Dont bother interacting with the grumpy ones.

Points positifs

Snacks in the break room (sometimes), coworkers can be cool

Points négatifs

Unfair restrictions, rude managers

managment doesn't communicate

When I first started working at the superstore in London, Ontario it was a great place to work! I've been working there for a year now and I moved up pretty quick from cashier to a high responsiblilty position then supervisor. if you make one mistake that you didn't mean to do, management will not give you a warning they will punish you. management does NOT communicate with there colleagues and blames employees for the mistakes even though they never got proper training. The only reason why I stayed is because the people who I worked with, the cashiers and supervisors are very nice. All I can say if you want depression this the the place to get it.

Points positifs

discount, friendly staff, diverse

Points négatifs

management does not communicate at all, toxic workplace, COVID-19 protocols were never followed when busy

Stressful and busy with not a lot of support

Physically and mentally harder than one may think, don't always feel supported. Pay is not enough to live on (minimum wage)Most people you work with are friendly but as with any job there can be personality conflicts.I do enjoy working with the public but don't always have time to feel like you are giving people the attention they are looking for.

Points positifs

Working with public

Personal Shopper, good in beginning, now hours reduced

My son works as a personal shopper in Saskatoon, has been there for over 3 years. He was getting almost full time hours for quite a while. Now in this new year his hours were gradually reduced where is down to 16 hours a week. Goes in at 11:30 at night & works till 3:30 a.m. Really screws up getting another job. And they are advertising for more workers for this job!!. Obviously, once you have worked a certain amount & your wage has gone up(although nothing to get excited about) they cut your hours so that they can hire someone at a lower pay scale and give them more hours. Very very dirty.

Points positifs

sometimes receives free food items

Points négatifs

cuts hours for present employees and hires more people giving them more hours

Good for teens Management needs work

I've been working here for 3 years and haven't been having the best time. The manager is nice but a total flake. You have to chase her and constantly and remind her about schedule changes you want. The back room is always a mess when she's there. It's really stressful for the first year because I didn't know how everything works and they told me nothing, I had to learn most if not everything from other coworkers.

Points positifs

Decent first time job

Points négatifs

Management needs work

Great place for teenagers to start working.

They work well with school, and sports for young adults and teenagers. Highly recommend them. Wage is about average for a grocery store in BC. Stores are clean and well organized

Points positifs

Flexible schedule

Good place to work but not enough pay

My job was to put the carts back at the front of the store, do price checks, and put items back on the shelves. The job was way understaffed and they would constantly give me shifts on saturday night til the store closed. The job was very very hard to keep up with on busy days and people would usually put the blame on you even though i went as hard as possible. Other positions would probably be fine, but courtesy clerk does not get paid near enough and i was miserable a lot of the days at work

Points positifs

Unionized

Points négatifs

Very stressful when store is busy, rude customers

Loved the staff, hated the shift

Working frozen is a very early shift but due to hour struggles I got kinda boned for time to finish the order. Good if you don't mind going between cold and hot frequently, like continuous working, good company, and back end work.Bad if you like interacting with the public or standing around.

Points positifs

Snacks in lunch room, bakery extras, great coworkers

Points négatifs

Dept not given enough hours

Not bad, but not great

Superstore is, as you could probably assume, not that great to work at. It's a grocery store -- what can you expect. That said, the people are pretty nice for the most part.

Horrible place to work at

Management is rude and picks their favourites.Do not appreciate the regular employes. The pay is not worth it especially during the pandemic. If you want your face drugged through the mad feel free to apply at Superstore.

Points positifs

Departments clash its hectic and unorganized. The only good part about it is working the night shift if you can handle it. Always lots of work to do because nobody barely does their jobs

Points négatifs
