Excellent flexibility but no pay equity so a trade off but works for me. I think benefits are weak compared to other employers and seeing how it's Sun Life.
Points positifs
Flexible Hours
Points négatifs
No opportunity for growth

Straight commission but it was your own business. The people and training and management were excellent. The business is very competitive which makes it challenging to earn enough commissions to earn a living

Managers choose their favourites. I know because I was one of them at one time. Doesn't make the other staff feel good, of course! One employee would take all the credit for others' creations and instead of rectifying the issue, management would slip it under the carpet and fester internally. Management disliked confrontation. Met some great staff and advisors though. Still friends with many. Pay was ok, as were SOME benefits. I worked there for many years as I wasn't motivated at the time to move on until I finally left. I wouldn't want to go back there.
Points positifs
Fun doing volunteer work for charities and the Xmas parties were fantastic!
Points négatifs
Management didn't "manage" well.

Sun Life has great values and treats the employees and clients with such respect, always putting their best interest first. They are a welcoming environment although meeting people is difficult because of the agile environment you are not always around the same people, although this makes the work space exciting and different as well. As a contract worker you do not always have a busy schedule, and can feel lost at times due to not having a set agenda for each day. You are given the work "no one wants to do' as the other employees are very busy. Overall its a great place to work with many perks such as great salary, great people, great central location (Toronto location), and very flexible work hours because of the option to work from home.
Points positifs
Flexible hours, and great benefits
Points négatifs
Can feel lonely and not part of a team (contract employees)

I enjoy my time at Sun Life.... no one draped over your shoulder ... ran my own schedule and was self motivated. It was a typical corporation with the typical corporate feel.... the management structure was a bit to be desired.... at times you feel like your just a number and your suggestions might not amount to much. But the vacation and benefits were good and salary was competitive. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the day to day drama.... the culture was a bit toxic at times but at other times it was great... a bit of a roller coaster ride The best part of the job was dealing with and training all of the staff and advisors.... also i wasnt monitored and scrutinized about my day to day activities
Points positifs
Great benefits, vacation allotment and competitive salary
Points négatifs
Typical corporate feel

I feel like you are set up for failure at the call center. You have to learn a whole new system, the ins and out of insurance including jargon and make sure you hit points they want all while being under a timer. Clients are rushed off the phone even if they are old and trying to use a website. if u cant reach a manager for them any things u don't know since training is garbage you have to tell the client well get back to u in 3-5 business days... they have random surveys too and pull calls to listen to with u making anxiety much worse. If you do get a bad review for not finishing the call that also looks bad on you. They humiliate u by having u call back clients to tell them stuff u missed, while wasting more time/confusing the clients. Even if u do everything that is asked this place sucks the life out of you. Be prepared for stress and overtime. But hey there's benefits. :S

Benefits
Points négatifs
Too many to list

Points positifs
Pour conseiller établies seulement
Points négatifs
Revenus potentiel innaccessible

good place to learn the ropes, but they tend to off shore a lot of development work, so one ends up only managing software development, rather than actively coding. This can lead to stagnation, it is really up to the individual, this model work for some.
Points positifs
very flexible, inclusive, good benefits, good compensation
Points négatifs
off shore development, to manger managers

The company offers a decent workplace. Culture is OK. Compensation is adequate. Many opportunities for moving around if you are an actuary, but limited otherwise. Flexible schedule, work from home is common.

As an advisor you are how the financial centre makes their money. The training is pretty good, and they will support building a business, but be prepared for selling to your close friends and family as well as working really hard and long hours the first 3 years before you see any real returns for your efforts. The management are sexist. Most of them are there for the social events. They want to party and the younger female advisors are treated like fresh meat. It is still an old boys club. This might not be the case at all financial centers. If you are young and smart and able to live your work and live with your parents while building your business then it might be for you. Beware as well that you can rack up debt through expenses with the company (office space, benefits etc). They make money off you renting their space and occupying their offices. YOU the advisor are THEIR commodity. If you know anything about insurance, investing and sales then skip the handholding and go make more money with an independent brokerage.
Points positifs
Training, social events
Points négatifs
Limited control, long hours, expenses, sexism, competitive

The turn over is high, but that is to be expected with the stress the teams have dealing with customer care, and having their breaks constantly moved around. there is advancement, but little incentive to try if they wont give you a pay bump or bonuses. A points system is in place to earn more benefits!
Points positifs
shuttle for your paid parking
Points négatifs
no free coffee, pay for parking, little to no benefits

Points positifs
Programme d'avantage sociaux

Good place to get some corporate exposure, don't expect to climb the ladder here. Middle management's priorities are to protect their own jobs not assist others in their career development. You will be fought at every turn if you are seeking advancement opportunities. If you're just looking for a stable job with minimal effort required this would be good for you. Money is average, nothing to brag about just enough to keep you in place. No more, no less. Corporate culture is very prevalent here, many snakes and two faces.
Points positifs
Good place to gain experience
Points négatifs
Politics, Culture, Mediocre compensation, Zero growth opportunity

A typical day is between 12 and 14 hours, and an expectation to do more with less. Tons of back stabbing and gossiping which is promoted by upper management. As supervisor/management you are not paid overtime and expected to work tons of it. Performance reviews are inconsistently applied across business units as well as between management. With only one exceeds expectations allowed on the full team, favoritism is rampant. Salaries are marketplace norms, but getting raises each year are minimal at best despite excellent performance reviews - continuously told there is no room in the budget for raises, continued education, supplies. Benefit program, despite being an insurance company is quite limited
Points positifs
Good cafeteria at King St location, Flex time
Points négatifs
Long hours, limited benefit plan, inconsistent management practices
