Sr. Management was so out of touch with staff and created an environment of fear. Morale was terrible.
Very disappointed at the way management did not support staff and created fear amongst staff. Compared to competitors Sun Life is far from employer of choice as they claimed to be. Sr. Mgmt action did not live you to their word. What they preached was not supported by their actions.
but not worth putting up with the feeling of fear walking into work every day
Great company with lots of opportunities to learn and advance. Offers flexible work hours. Very collaborative work environment. Good compensation with reward incentives.

Toxic culture, exceptionally uncollaborarive, rewards managing up and complete lack of teamwork. Unprofessional is the least that can be said about this organization.
Uncooperative environment. Encourages backstabbing.
The following quotes reflect the culture there: "I don't have time, want or need to understand the problem or issues. I am here to make the decisions." - an Assistant Vice President "There's only budget for one of us to be here, and just to let you know - I am not going anywhere" - a middle-mgmt. bureaucrat on my first day of work "So is it done?" - individual who requested something in the prior hour's meeting after changing conference rooms with them Groundhog Day The new workers want to do a great job...and are enthusiastic. There are A LOT of workers that have been there 20+ years... who lack basic knowledge/experience, are territorial, counterproductive and overly bureaucratic. They will withhold information intentionally even if it is irrational. 95% unnecessary meetings with the same people back-to-back, 5% real work People more focused on protecting themselves politically rather than fixing/preventing problems. General lack of common sense. Lots of "Load-Fire-Aim" with the ensuing triage and blamestorming. Extreme reliance on unqualified off-shore consulting
Good Entry-Level Job, Lots to work on, Learn how not to do things
Far too top-heavy, Middle and upper mgmt not qualified to do their jobs, Extremely political
A typical day is between 12 and 14 hours, and an expectation to do more with less. Tons of back stabbing and gossiping which is promoted by upper management. As supervisor/management you are not paid overtime and expected to work tons of it. Performance reviews are inconsistently applied across business units as well as between management. With only one exceeds expectations allowed on the full team, favoritism is rampant. Salaries are marketplace norms, but getting raises each year are minimal at best despite excellent performance reviews - continuously told there is no room in the budget for raises, continued education, supplies. Benefit program, despite being an insurance company is quite limited
Good cafeteria at King St location, Flex time
Long hours, limited benefit plan, inconsistent management practices
Culture is good generally, but it's a big company and so one department and manager can definitely lead to different impressions. Excellent benefits and performance incentive programs. Ability to change jobs is challenging. Problem people managers are not dealt with fast enough.
Little opportunity for advancement
The company has a set of values and core pillars of growth that drives the business forward. Because business is growing, it is constantly busy. Expect a tremendous amount of work to be completed quickly with accuracy. A high performance culture drives the workforce. Overall a good company with many opportunities.
