Sun Life is a nice place to work. Professional, straightforward tasks throughout the day. There is a system in place for all aspects of the business, which makes it easy to learn the job.
The more difficult aspects of the job are the things that can't really be taught, but must be learned from experience. These include excellent customer service abilities, such as patience, great listening skills and a high level of communication.
It was a great place to work. Great hours mon-fri 8:30am - 4:30pm. Never worked weekends and not much overtime during the week. Office gossip could be stressful but if ignored and just got on with job you were fine. Enjoyed the people I worked with and meeting clients. Work load sometimes stressful when covering for another employee but overall good experience. Didn’t see myself moving up though.
I enjoyed working with 2 great advisors in a fun and professional office. Flexibility was greatly appreciated. I was introduced to a new program Salesforce.
Points positifs
Flexibility
Points négatifs
No health benefits
Company is amazing to work for.
Advisors are 100% commission based. And you supply all office, like starting a new business.
The more you know then better off you are.
Saskatoon Head Office staff are amazing.
Most of time you are interacting with clients through mail and calls, you should have detail knowledge of all insurances and policies , so you can help your clients with their quarries.
Points positifs

Points négatifs

Sun Life has great values and treats the employees and clients with such respect, always putting their best interest first. They are a welcoming environment although meeting people is difficult because of the agile environment you are not always around the same people, although this makes the work space exciting and different as well. As a contract worker you do not always have a busy schedule, and can feel lost at times due to not having a set agenda for each day. You are given the work "no one wants to do' as the other employees are very busy. Overall its a great place to work with many perks such as great salary, great people, great central location (Toronto location), and very flexible work hours because of the option to work from home.
Points positifs
Flexible hours, and great benefits
Points négatifs
Can feel lonely and not part of a team (contract employees)
I was so glad I got this job. It is very closer to where I live.People are very friendly all over the company. There is a nice cafeteria and a nice area to sit and relax.
Points positifs
free lunches on special occasions
I loved the work, I loved the environment, I thought it was extremely beneficial to my career advancement. Friendly, supportive, lots of team bonding, training, program events, management.
Taught me a lot about working in an office environment, something which I was completely new to. It involved a lot of basic, easy to understand tasks that allowed for work hours that were flexible around my school schedule.
Points positifs
Great Co-workers
Points négatifs
Monotonous tasks
I enjoyed the opportunity of working with such large groups of individuals, and various software programs. As well as their flexibility and support with changing jobs when the desire was there.
Working for Sun Life opened many doors and eventually led me to studying International Business in Paris. I would highly recommend them. The business atmosphere is up beat and if you ever require help, someone is there to do so.
heavy workload, great teams and management with a variety of training opportunities; annual team outings; good benefits and great job culture overall.
Points positifs
annual team events
Points négatifs
salary is lower than many other places
it was nice working there. clean office. nice people. managers are friendly. not too much work to be done. weekends off. vacations. easy to commute to
This is very similar to my job at Ernst and Young. Worked for upper management - they really appreciated my fast turn around of tasks. I tried always to make them look awesome and in turn make my job great.
Points positifs
9 to 5 job
Points négatifs
Too far to travel
Working in Sun Life will give you challenges to polish your communication skills and be organized. As well as, dealing with problems especially when dealing with clients. You will learn how to be compliant and it stretches your common senses.
The job allowed me to learn about data entry and doing administrative work.
I was able to work on my organizational and management skills .
I learned to be part of a team and coordinate my responsibilities with other people.
I can only speak on behalf of the one department I worked in. The job itself is extremely stressful; handling client complaints and and dealing with serious illness' and seeing employees decisions that impact peoples lives is a lot to handle. There is a very arrogant attitude in general to my department, a 'that's not MY job' attitude. Everyone will pass off as much work to other people as they possibly can, and managers don't say anything about it. The department refuses to offer me a full time position and no matter how many contract extensions I get offered, there is no possibility of ANY benefits, sick days, personal days, vacation, or a raise. There is no room to rise within the department as far as I'm concerned. No respect.
Points positifs
Fixed work week. Weekends off. Decent wages.
I worked for 2 Financial Advisors .
Keeping their schedules up to dates.
Making sure all forms and documents they need were available all the time.
Communicate with them via email, text and phone .
Support them on all their need to make their day went smooth.
Points positifs
Activities every Friday. Interaction between staff.
Points négatifs
