Management honestly cares. There is a great culture of getting there together, wherever “there” is. Great perks like gym, fully staffed food court, serenity waterfalls (where it is lovely to spend some time with co-workers brainstorming over ideas. Fantastic video conference rooms and a great auditorium with many surprising artifacts. The older, early century, buildings and how you can get lost in the many hall ways. Booking my agile work spot allowed me to work and speak with staff in other teams. I learned how much fun it is to return to the workplace and analyze again instead of being a top manager, it certainly was fun consulting. Management is very approachable and if there are questions they do take time to listen and find, either the right person to speak to, or the process to read up on. One thing I have found in my gig is that change still takes time to get accepted and sometimes a square peg is pushed into a round hole. Great place to work!
Fantastic work atmosphere
Parking is getting more expensive and I have no other way to get there from outside the city.

Work is average, salary is a bit under average, along with the benefits. People are nice overall. Some of the management can be full of themselves at times, play favorites.
Job security, somewhat flexible hours.
Benefits and salary under average, job is stressful at times.
Horrible place to work. No spirit or compassion from manager and workplace very dreary. Not a healthy environment to work in. Constantly belittled by manager to the point of making me ill.
Damaging to self-esteem.
Managers choose their favourites. I know because I was one of them at one time. Doesn't make the other staff feel good, of course! One employee would take all the credit for others' creations and instead of rectifying the issue, management would slip it under the carpet and fester internally. Management disliked confrontation. Met some great staff and advisors though. Still friends with many. Pay was ok, as were SOME benefits. I worked there for many years as I wasn't motivated at the time to move on until I finally left. I wouldn't want to go back there.
Fun doing volunteer work for charities and the Xmas parties were fantastic!
Management didn't "manage" well.
State of the art building at 1 York with cutting edge progressive agile working environment, very supportive management and amazing continuous improvement mind set of teams.
Agile working environment, continuous improvement culture
I enjoy my time at Sun Life.... no one draped over your shoulder ... ran my own schedule and was self motivated. It was a typical corporation with the typical corporate feel.... the management structure was a bit to be desired.... at times you feel like your just a number and your suggestions might not amount to much. But the vacation and benefits were good and salary was competitive. The hardest part of the job was dealing with the day to day drama.... the culture was a bit toxic at times but at other times it was great... a bit of a roller coaster ride The best part of the job was dealing with and training all of the staff and advisors.... also i wasnt monitored and scrutinized about my day to day activities
Great benefits, vacation allotment and competitive salary
Typical corporate feel
I feel like you are set up for failure at the call center. You have to learn a whole new system, the ins and out of insurance including jargon and make sure you hit points they want all while being under a timer. Clients are rushed off the phone even if they are old and trying to use a website. if u cant reach a manager for them any things u don't know since training is garbage you have to tell the client well get back to u in 3-5 business days... they have random surveys too and pull calls to listen to with u making anxiety much worse. If you do get a bad review for not finishing the call that also looks bad on you. They humiliate u by having u call back clients to tell them stuff u missed, while wasting more time/confusing the clients. Even if u do everything that is asked this place sucks the life out of you. Be prepared for stress and overtime. But hey there's benefits. :S
Too many to list
The managers blamed me for failing at this career. They didn’t train, the staff are arrogant and think they are better than everyone. If you like selling cars and being a greasy car salesman I would recommend this job to you. Come to Sun Life and sell your soul to the devil where if someone can’t afford life insurance you should lock them in your office and force them to sign. Talk about a scam. Good luck if you want to be hated and hate everything about your job. Just think your family member dies and Sun Life says you aren’t approved. They don’t tell you, you have to sell 10 products to get contracted, you pay for your office, if you don’t sell they bill you $1000 per month.
Does nothing count?
Does everything count?
My experience working with Sun Life was not a positive one. Change in management was very difficult for everyone. Ended up leaving my role due to restructuring
Benefits and pay
Dealing with difficult managent
took calls all day long, Day went very fast and great people in the call center. Some management was great but others need more training in social skills and behaviour. Great to be able to help out callers and give them information they needed. Hardest part was dealing with some of the management who thought they were better and knew best.
busy day, time went fast, great bunch of people in the call center
no security and always being told you can do better.
The position was sold well during the hiring process; however, the actual job is nothing like what you signed up for. This led to poor retention and lack of employees' commitment (ex: people calling sick quite often, going on disabilities or just disappearing).
I originally was working in the Toronto office and I had to move to the US due to personal reasons, otherwise I would have never left. The hours are fabulous, you get to pick a shift that works for your schedule. Management and all the leadership is super helpful and ready to make sure you get promoted if you work hard enough. The culture is great! Teams are competitive, yet very positive.
If you don't like sales, competition & fast paced environment, it's not for you.
