SLF tries to see itself as a competitive company with good pay and rewards it’s employees. From my experience they will make you work on so many projects that doesn’t seem to fit your job description. They will give you projects that belong to other employees and when you’ve accomplished the tasks that has never been done before, and you train all colleagues, you are not recognized for it. Instead the employees whom you’ve trained reaps the reward of your training and they get promoted. All high severity issues are handed to me as the team are unable to do it. This company will take you for all you’ve got and they will not appreciate it. SLF hires junior level employees to save money.

Recognition and poor management
So I techinically didn't work directly for Sun Life, but I worked for a Financial Advisor, on site, who is contracted by Sun Life. That still meant that I was subject to Sun Life rules, training and standards. However, despite the accessibility training, I could not actually get help from the company when I was faced with ableism, abuse and manipulation. I wasyelled at, not listened to, manipulated, had my job threatened if I didn't get better but if not promised a raise. Despite all of that, there was no one I could ask for help. The lack of accountability is appalling. When I eventually quit due to mental health concerns due to the treatment of my boss, instead of denying me support, EI actually asked why I stayed for so long. It was a nightmare. At the same time, Head Office downsized and fired several of our management staff to restructure and made everything more complicated and requiring support from HO or from a resource facilitator in Thunder Bay. Oh, and because my salary didn't come from Sun Life, I had to fight my advisor for a year of Stat pay and vacation pay.
Some free lunches
yelling, abuse, lack of accountability, lack of leadership, centralised leadership structure

A productive, fast-paced work environment where both an ability to work independently and collaborate with others is required and valued. Management tries to be supportive of employee educational and career aspirations. An ability to work from home is also provided to many roles/positions.
Trigger happy management that believes that it is a manager's prerogative to fire a person. Even if others are happy with the person's output. In a survey by CEO, the top management request came out that "make firing easier:.

I enjoyed working in a great financial institution for the past 10 years. I was always valued, supported, motivated and appreciated. Management always believed in my skills and invested my hard work in bigger roles. I was given the opportunities to go in varies training and work shops.
Collaborative environment with excellent employees and management. Community and family oriented. Subsidized employee restaurant with excellent food. Flexible work arrangements and provided all the tools required to be successful.
High degree of variability between business units with little overall HR involvement to create consistency between business units. Many very good people work here and generally a collaborative place to work. Some leaders are challenging and very little recourse for employee in these situations.
Heavy workload, able to work from home, mix feelings about management. Raises are not easy to obtain once in the company Easy to move from one department to another
Great job if you work well with the public in person and on the phone. Financial background an asset.
Dedicated financial advisors and caring and supportive management team leaders (top notch!). I am thankful for the education I received during my job.
Management team, varied job description, newly renovated office
Nothing earth shattering :).
Typical corporate atmosphere - too much process and slow to adapt. Too many reorgs in attempt to improve efficiency - leads employees feeling they cannot gain traction in their career. Lack of recognition for high performing employees. People are nice to work with so actual working conditions are pleasant. Respect for work life balance.
A very professional work environment, flexibility to work from home few days a week. Management appreciates your new ideas for system improvement, no micro management.
