Management and advisors work closely and collaboratively for the wellbeing of clients. Lots of opportunity for growth within the company. Training is always available and technology/technology tools are always being updated.
Supportive Management, Pay, Benefits
After working at the company for a few years, you can definitely see the inclusive culture and supporting peers you would expect from Sun Life. If you are looking for a work-life balance, this is the right company for you.
Its a nice culture and they really care about their employees. A great place to work. Its been a wonderful fit for me and lots of opportunity to move around.

The work culture was like nothing I had ever experienced. Very friendly and inviting. I learned a lot about disability case management principles.My management was great!I felt the onboarding and ongoing training and development has a lot of room for improvement, which they are working on. The central case management software is also terrible but is also being completely redone.

Great salary and benefits but no loyalties from the company. Over stressed environment with no proper trainings nor support from managers. You have to be able to find your way around to train and be productive.
The work environment is highly toxic and it depends on who you know. HR is not independent in handling reported cases of manager mentally “abusing” staff even with supporting evidence. The executive leadership has been campaigning mental health at workplace this year, but none of it is enforceable. Manager has the power and sole authority to be unreasonable in their ask of you. For example, making it impossible for you to take time off to the point of you having to forfeit your allotted vacation days and using performance evaluation as the leverage. HR does absolutely nothing but work for the management.
If you are connected to the right people in the company, you can get away with high compensation and not having to do any work.
The support team from the district and head office is fantastic. Unique and above average compensation. Love the concept of upfront commission for any plan submitted plus monthly residual income.

Earnings fluctuate but still better than average
Overworked, underpaid..you feel like slavery is still very much a thing. Your merits, hardwork, loyalty and stats are not recognized. The only way you are able to move up in the company is by licking management boots and even then they have their favourites. A lot of discrimination and sexism is evident coupled with office politics. I would not recommend anyone to work here!!!

SLF tries to see itself as a competitive company with good pay and rewards it’s employees. From my experience they will make you work on so many projects that doesn’t seem to fit your job description. They will give you projects that belong to other employees and when you’ve accomplished the tasks that has never been done before, and you train all colleagues, you are not recognized for it. Instead the employees whom you’ve trained reaps the reward of your training and they get promoted. All high severity issues are handed to me as the team are unable to do it. This company will take you for all you’ve got and they will not appreciate it. SLF hires junior level employees to save money.

Bad experience working in pushing environment as a consultant but done some good work there. I never recommend anyone to work there. If anyone will start working there he will be out sooner or later from there. Main reason is the culture is not very good, its push push and only push environment. They teat people like machines.
I enjoyed working in a great financial institution for the past 10 years. I was always valued, supported, motivated and appreciated. Management always believed in my skills and invested my hard work in bigger roles. I was given the opportunities to go in varies training and work shops.
Great job if you work well with the public in person and on the phone. Financial background an asset.
Dedicated financial advisors and caring and supportive management team leaders (top notch!). I am thankful for the education I received during my job.
