Overworked, underpaid..you feel like slavery is still very much a thing. Your merits, hardwork, loyalty and stats are not recognized. The only way you are able to move up in the company is by licking management boots and even then they have their favourites. A lot of discrimination and sexism is evident coupled with office politics. I would not recommend anyone to work here!!!
Working in corporate downtown calgary
Poor management; discrimination; excessive workloads; poor pay; office politics
I got the best opportunity with Sun Life. They have all the tools for success, just learn to capitalize on it. You are your own boss, you set a goal and you make it.
felt totally supported through training and all day to day activities. Lots of training and time to learn, kept busy through the day but not to the point of being overwhelmed. Very clear communication about expectations and standards. Excellent work-life balance.

Its purely a sales role, and you have to be passionate about what you do, and relentless with attracting people into the company. The business model of owning your own business can be overwhelming, so you need to be an individual whom is very structured and highly principled.
My impression from the first day to the last day at Sun Life is summed in these words, " if you look around you at 10 a.m and your environment is awesome, your colleagues are simply great, you are supported to be the best in the job you do, and you enjoy your job, then you are very lucky". My Sun Life experience is nothing short of awesome on daily basis, the training, the mentoring, the coaching, the customer feed back. I enjoyed every bit of it and I will miss it.
Team, bonding, training, coaching, growth, etc
The environment was too positive for me to notice cons, the management is in constant improvement gear.
When i first entered this career with Sun Life, I came from a very successful career. The initial fear of leaving a safe, well paid job was quicky overcome when I realised how flexible my schedule could be, the income potential I had and the positive impact on my community I could have. For me making a career change was a big decision and Sun Life and their management team has made this a very enlightening experience.
Great Income potential, great support, great work environment.
Requires you to have above average skills and abilities.
I did my practicum there for one hundred hours. Friendly people, I felt welcome, and whenever I don't understand something they are always ready to help. They gave me an idea of what to expect when I get a "real job."
Long hours of sitting
Sun Life Financial provide fixable working hours, I can manage working schedule depends on my client's need. By product information and sales skill training, I learned lots of knowledge from insurance and wealth product. And I also have opportunity to meet with different clients from different background. The co-workers in this company is nice, sometimes we work on new prospect and group clients together, and we share selling skill so that we could improve together. The hardest part of this job is to keep finding new prospect, try to find their need by talking to them so that provide product they might interest. Although this is hard, I do learn the communication skill with people.
lots of training
• Building and maintaining Advisor and Client relationships • Main Sun Life contact for advisors and clients for all inquiries • Responsible for the growth and profitability of an assigned block of business. • Ensuring client and advisor needs are met through strong customer service and value added products and services • Use of different operating Systems, CRM, and reporting systems • Sold, Renewed, and negotiated Sun Life Group Benefit products and services
A typical day at work would involve cold calling, warm calling and referral calling. This allows to keep a flow of meetings going on a weekly basis, resulting in a flow of sales. I learned how to act in a professional, unbiased and ethical manner. My management has been extremely supportive and supported all my decisions. I have never worked with such an easy going group of people in my life. Never has there been one issue. The hardest part of the job is the off chance of not receiving an income (as it is commission based only). The most enjoyable part of this job has been the education I've learned, the people I have met and at the atmosphere.
Good company to work for as they make you feel like you are part of a family. Growth within the company is possible, but most likely in Ontario where the majority of the jobs are. The office I work at in Alberta has little room for growth.I learned a great deal about the pension industry. Mastered excel with the use of macro programming, V Look-Ups, and Pivot Tables.
Good job, it was nice to be there.I gathered a lot of experience there.
