A typical day is making sure there's always fresh drip coffee and the workplace is clean. Interacting with coworkers to make sure we are all on task. Preparing drinks for customers and interacting with them in the process to help ensure they have a positive experience. I learned a lot about the coffee process, how it gets from the tree to our store, and have a better appreciation for all things coffee-related.

I hate this job with my whole heart and soul. It will make you stressed out. Mentally and physically demanding. Not worth the little money you make and tips are horrible since customers are horrible.
Points positifs
Benefits
Points négatifs
Literally everything.

Amazing coworkers, schedule can be rough, willing to promote from within, customers can be difficult and you need to have excellent listening skills or you'll mess up their order. there is so much to memorize.
Points positifs
free drinks, reliable paycheque, you know the best orders
Points négatifs
schedule can be crazy, so many drinks to memorize

We were not allowed to receive any tips. I was also forced to work at times that had me struggle to make it to work on time. As well as an extremely disorganized manager who made multiple mistakes on the work schedule. My manager knew that there was a worker I did not get along with and she continued to schedule me with her on purpose. I did learn a lot from Starbucks and the training was a positive experience.

The experience varies from store to store. I've had great managers that were flexible and supportive, but I've also had toxic managers that scheduled only 3-4 hours shifts at 6 am.
Points positifs
benefits if you're fullt-time
Points négatifs
the pay, support

Very demanding and stressful job, with poor management. Upper management utterly disconnected from the lower level employees and what life at work as a barista is like. Upper management demands too much of under-paid, overworked and stressed baristas, and they suck up to customers even after customers verbally abuse and yell at baristas for enforcing company policy. Lower level employees have no voice, with no change being made when they complain. Upper management also makes unrealistic demands that just genuinely don't make sense and/or are not achievable due to the staffing or based on how things run in the store. Store managers understaff and ask their employees to cover shifts last minute, basically ensuring that baristas and shift supervisors have no social life or steady schedule.
Points positifs
free coffee
Points négatifs
understaffing, no autonomy, no voice, stressful

Most Starbucks have a very inclusive and upbeat environment - I have worked shifts at about 7 different stores and have mostly positive things to say about all of them. There is lots of training provided; although it may be scary to learn how to handcraft so many drinks, you get plenty of time to learn. Some teams are very cliquey so it may be a bit intimidating at first - it’s really hit or miss based on the store. Beware of micromanagement from other baristas too (very annoying!). Another thing I like about the company is it’s plans for progression and development within. This company puts customer experience above all, so you’ll always have to be willing to be the bigger person even if the customer is wrong or rude to you.
Points positifs
Free coffee beans/tea, benefits, schedule out for 3 weeks, easily update availability, flexible hours, benefits, bean stock share, progression plan
Points négatifs
Stressful at peaks, cliquey, micromanaging

Shifts at Starbucks flew by, as we were often busy but not necessarily swamped. They had a good system for delegating tasks between people, rewards were decent, and there are yearly pay raises and stock issuances that, while not crazy good, are far better than most minimum-wage jobs. The culture is friendly and I made friends that I keep to this day. Be warned that, at least at my location, they only hire from between 15 and 30 hours a week, so usually the only person working full time is the store owner. I had to leave to get full-time work somewhere else, but I still miss my time working at Starbucks
Points positifs
Benefits are decent, culture is nice. They promote from within, so pretty good future prospects for a corporate retail gig
Points négatifs
Hours aren't very flexible, and work can be stressful. Management is touch-and-go based on the location

i’m a really hard worker, which often goes unrecognized. it’s a stressful job, and i don’t believe minimum wage is enough, considering how much i take on at my store. the management plays favourites, isn’t fair to partners, and doesn’t give employees room to grow. we’ve lost lots of partners due to the new management. beyond this, i believe if i was treated fairly and given more positive reinforcement as opposed to being shamed for my flaws, the job would be good. i love the other people that work there, there’s a great vibe that way. just please starbucks, hire better managers 🤣
Points positifs
free drinks during shift
Points négatifs
poor management

Low salary and sometimes very difficult coworkers to work with but over all not a bad place to work at, you get to know people a bit more and learn about the city better.

this company does not care about the people running the stores. they give us no labor, so we’re constantly understaffed and somehow it is still our fault when we can’t do everything we need to do. customers are rude and entitled. unless you know the manager is good, just stay away honestly.
Points positifs
good, cheap benefits, free drinks on your shift, 30% discount on everything, coworkers are generally amazing (barring management)
Points négatifs
literally everything else

Starbucks is pretty inclusive when it comes to work. We all have fun and the customers are pretty great most of the time. Pay should be more for amount of work expected from us on a daily basis
Points positifs
free drinks, good friends
Points négatifs
usually can’t get 40 hrs a week so if you need full 40 on minimum wage to survive it’s not enough

Probably my favourite workplace out of my experience. Training is clear and helpful, as well as hands on rather than online. Great people! Great discounts and benefits! Always able to get shifts covered/pick up hours. Can work at any location in the city, not stuck at just 1 store. 6 month reviews for raises etc. All around an amazing company to work for
Points positifs
mandatory breaks, great benefits, free drinks on shift, discount on food/drinks on or off shift, great staff and support team, easy shift coverage, hours always available

I was working for Starbucks for 7 months. The salary was minimum wage. People were nice. We came from all over the world which created a fun and rewarding work environment. I enjoyed my time at Starbucks because of the people I worked with, not the benefits. I think Starbucks should pay their employees more.

The culture at Starbucks is amazing. Somehow the teams are usually all like-minded people with a good attitude at work. The tasks aren't too hard to grasp, the training they give new baristas is exceptional. The best part of the job is meeting people, customers, and co-workers!
Points positifs
benefits!

It was the most awful work experience in my life. The management has no idea how to manage and that's a most important problem! They hire too many people giving them 10 hours weekly and making a crazy schedule. So if you have another part time job - it doesn't work. The work ethics is awfuly low. Management and some covorkers will treat you as garbag. Work place harrasment is usual situation there. You will mostly work as a cleaner and dish washer. They will use you for deep cleaning, public washrooms cleaning and so on. Some times they won't provide you with a rubber glows.Training is difficult, you shall learn lots. Some of store managers cannot provide you with a proper training. More likely you will wash and klean, then they will do everything to get rid of you. They provide benefits only for empoloyees who hawe more than 20 hours weekly. Also they do everything to make it impossible.
Points positifs
0.5 lb coffee weekly
Points négatifs
No time, no money, no dignity

Starbucks is not for the feint of heart. It is hard work and the customers are not always easy. However if you can handle a decent workload, there are really great benefits and room for growth within the company. They will always push to help you learn and grow, as opposed to other company’s that just fire you.
Points positifs
Health and Dental up to 90% coverage.
Points négatifs
Exhausting work, mentally draining
