Having worked in retail for a long time, I had much higher expectations from this company especially considering my previous work experience but that wasn’t enough. There are some friendly people and you just need to learn to be polite towards everyone in general and keep your sincerity with people who actually show trust in you and admire you for who you are. Politics is essentially a part of all workplaces in varying capacity but one has to learn to move on quickly from some incidents and just keep doing what they are doing as long as the customers are happy.

Many of the managers are sexist and micromanage. I had a manager tell me I needed to “stop hitting on the tech guys” when my job directly interacted with them. Many employees are great and the work itself is okay. The company is very disorganized with some parts of the store but it is mostly a head office issue. Make sure you try and get a feel for the managers before accepting a position. Major anxiety going to work simply because of the manager.

Management needs to take diversity training. There are daily comments of stupidity in meetings and men remain dominant. HR are very strict - it’s a helicopter culture - not a trust working from home. Employees work very long hours often through lunch - meetings are endless. The current merger is a mess - a lot of details are outstanding leaving teams with unnecessary stress. Communication is lacking and could reassure employees. Stores are disconnected from head office. There’s no allowance for equipment for at home employees. Even a year on employees are working at kitchen tables - Stapes sells the essentials but doesn’t look after it’s own team.

Well I hope you have a strong back, lots of lifting is in your future at Staples. The pay is ok for what is required of you at this position. Work hard go home get up do it again, just please be ca of your back is tough work consistently carrying 50 pound boxes of copy paper up multiple flights of stairs.

Very little room for growth. Minimum wage and good to earn work experience if you just finished school. Great for students so alot of team work which makes it fun but not a long term job if u got a family to support.

The management just strings you along and tells you your important and says that you can be promoted to have "this" job and "that" job. Doesn't matter how hard you work or how long you've been there, or how many people's jobs you have to so including your own. Does not pay a fair wage. Way overworked and not compensated.

You really have to have the by in of your team. All GMs are different and you are healed accountable. It’s not. A bad job and there are evenings and weekends you have to work. Some managers will message you on your day off and some expect you to be always available. The more you know the more you do. Some hold associates accountable and others not so much. Some upper management listen and help and others may brush you off. All depends on who you get and they pay/stress isn’t always worth it.

Highly outdated inventory systems and computer hardware. Terrible internet speed to accomplish work. Stressed out staff because of ineffective management. Terrible exit plan for clearance merchandise. Staff not always treated well.

I just want to say Staples is like a second family to me. I have been working there for 15 years now . It's great ,knowing I have job that is there for me. There is a lot to learn here. I am still learning ,working at Stapes Warehouse because of lockdown. I still have a full time job. It's interesting to learn how online products are being distributed. It's a lot more labour work but I am understanding more now.

This job will push you to sell and sell their plan ans services even tho you know they will never use it and/or they already have it with their credit card. Also the manager team will push you to sell more and more even if you fell you are steling from people. They don't care.

If you're just starting out in life. It's alright. If you come in with a skillset, prepare to be disappointed. They call you an assosciate but you're really expected to be a salesperson. Using high pressure tactics to sell things to customers that 85 percent of the time they don't really need, all for minimum wage. As stated if you NEED work, it's alright. If you have an education and NEED work, set your expectations low. Manager at the time seemed to have a very high opinion of himself, even though he wasn't all that great.

Generally a stressful experience no matter which department, in technology people will harangue you for their own lack of informity, and even when you have a satisfying experience helping the one sane person you met that shift then you're obliged to push services they don't need or the corporate program that's being waved around this week. Could've been the good coworkers and single good supervisor that kept me there for a few years while finishing up at Algonquin, but looking back it was so much more stress than it was worth. I learned something about most everything from print to tech to aisles, but it was print that was the worst. No one appreciates the work that goes into that department, not managers, not customers. A thankless position without adequate pay or recognition. It was a supervisor kept that place running singlehandedly, and without him I would've quit as soon as I joined the Print Team.With the advent of Covid, social distancing and increased cleaning and face coverings became the norm. Well, I'll be honest, there was no time made available to clean. It was not the safest feeling in the world coming to work, where customers are not listening to guidelines, and then we aren't given the time to ensure we aren't getting whatever they have. That aside I wouldn't apply unless you're out of other options.

It is good if you need a part time job or an starting point. After 4 months of full time Woking, they did not give any benefits and they called my job just a TEMPORARY CONTRACT.

I worked at the South Surrey / White Rock location and it was a really nice place to work. The managers were nice and actually treated you like an actual person/ equal rather then only talking to you to tell you to do something. Customers were decent and Managers backed you rather then the customer in almost all scenarios. They would only back the customer if you were only actually in the wrong. My team was also really amazing and I liked showing up to work because of who my coworkers were, we all always organized events to do together as friends. Overall amazing place to work even though Staples doesn't have good discount benefits for there employees. You will really like your team and managers at this location.

Terrible management, does not value the employees, management is also occasionally rude to customers which was awkward. Sometimes they randomly keep you super late, even until 1am and get mad if you have to leave earlier than that despite the short notice. Their system is also setup such that you can barely do anything without asking management; you can’t even return something over 50$ without a manager’s code.

A lot of employees are jaded there, they don't really care about the team building or culture or common goals, or don't question the status quo. And all the management cares about is numbers. They don't really walk the talk.

The only thing Staples cares about is metrics. Get so many customer emails, push for replacement plan sales which can be excessively priced based on the item, sell tech support subscriptions, oh, and don't forget to ask about signing up for the new credit card! The daily morning meetings before store opening make you feel like all the company sees in their employees is dollar signs instead of people.Hard to get break coverage because they are constantly short staffed, as well as 20-30 minute lineups for the tech and print departments at times because typically management schedules 1-2 people in each department. They're usually too busy doing manager stuff like standing at the door to actually help out. Don't worry though, if a customer walks up to your counter while you've turned away to do another task for a moment, they'll be sure to let you know you have someone waiting via the headsets. Need a manager to open the locked cupboard which contains rolls of receipt paper? Not a problem, that'll be a 5 minute wait for the single manager on the floor with keys to come over to assist.The only positive about working here is some of your fellow low level co-workers might be nice. If this sounds like something you'd enjoy, you might like working here.

Managers would rather gossip and sit on their phones then support their staff you get promoted by being hot or an absolute jerk to the people below you, hard work is rarely appreciated. For a tech company they have some of the worst systems in places for associates and customers especially the print website making everyones life that much harder. Its clear that most of the changes sent down from home office come from people who have never worked a day in their life on the floor of a store
