Every area of the store is different so I can only speak for the department I worked in which was Copy and Print. To be honest it was mentally exhausting. The amount of work that is expected of you with unrealistic goals and expectations. Like a small store is expected to make the same goal as a store twice the size with only half the foot traffic. There is little to no recognition or encouragement. It's very much a "look how other stores in your district are doing. Why aren't you as good as them. You have to do better" I consistently feel like I'm fighting head office over little things because they do not understand anything about Newfoundland. Don't get me wrong it's not all bad. The staff was great and they would have little fun days and events for staff. But they were few and far between.

The staff at any Staples I have had the pleasure of working in, are amazing! The management are great and really listen to your needs. The head office could take some notes... For the jobs you are required to do, the pay could be better.
Staff Days (free lunch, parties)
Working with staples is an add to your resume and experience as it is a big company to start with in Canada. I have learnt alot from the team. We are like brothers and sister and everyone one is helping the other to understand the whole process. It is my pleasure to work there.

What began as a great experience (entirely thanks to a great managerial team) devolved quickly with managerial changes that eventually saw our GM changed for a former manager of ours that cherry-picked who he liked and what work he did and who refused to help our very busy and often swamped Copy Center. It got to the point that on some weekends, our sole cashier came to help whenever she could and although I tried every time, I always ended up giving up on calling for help on the store-wide speakers because he was supposed to be my help but he never ever came. Later, I was nearly cheated out of bereavement leave by another manager and as a GM, he brushed away my formal complaint and sided with the manager, to whom I had given multiple chances to tell me the truth. That manager insisted that the time would be taken from my meager vacation time when the official HR website clearly stated that I was allowed 3 paid days of bereavement leave. In fact, the only reason I wasn't screwed over was thanks to one amazing and trustworthy manager who, at the time, managed our paychecks. Add to that the minimum wage salary, few opportunities and only managerial ones to be found, nearly impossible to get the status required to get benefits... While I was there, I saw the store become more and more understaffed and transfer to a managerial team led by yes-men who didn't care about the employees. What started as a great team eventually became a spinning door with great employees quitting en masse. You are going to have to deal with clients who walk into the store angry. The people who you work with are really nice and easy to get along with. If you are used to fast-paced and stressful environments, then this job could be good for you (especially in the Copy and Print Center)
The managers and coworkers were amazing people. Although the job can be very stressful at times, they always had my back whenever I had to deal with a rude customer or was overwhelmed with a long line. Team work played a big part in the success of the copy center.
Staples had been difficult for all the jobs I have worked for. Although there was support from managers, supervisors of the copy centre not approachable. They always had problems understanding a person. They do not treat employees properly. Staples needs to switch its copy centre supervisors and hire better people with empathy. People working there deserve respect. This is on top of all the filth people have to take from the annoying customers because they hire less production team to produce work, which means people at the front are answerable to the customers, and not the production team that had to get work done because they are always short-staffed. This is because of the way people are treated at the copy centre at Staples. Many people just quit their jobs due to lack of respect, lack of pay and lack of appreciation for the amount of work there is.
Working in the copy center was horrible. There was never enough staff and those on the floor and management were not copy trained. There was never enough help for when many people came in at once. A lot of the time costumers would get frustrated with me because I couldn't help them but as one personI can only help so many people in at one time. The management was never helpful. A lot of the time they seemed to think they were more superior and better than everyone else, that they didn't have to do any physical work and could just order everyone else around. There was never any consideration in that regard. A few people in my department had quit, and had given minimum two week notice but they were never able to hire anyone to replace them so they begged the associates to stay another week or two (one person had given 7 weeks notice and another had given three weeks). A bunch of the shifts had fallen onto me because of their inability to hire someone new. I never wanted more shifts, if anything I wanted less. I had made sure to tell management two weeks before both people left, that I wanted my availability changed to less days but when they finally left I was asked to change it and questioned on why I couldn't work certain days, even when before I had told them I'm going back to school. From what I know, as a part time worker the employer is supposed to work around the employee's schedule but that could be wrong. The work itself isn't hard but there can be a lot of difficult costumers and a lot of the time I can't do what they want. When I get a manager, most of the - plus...
I worked in staples Park Royal (West Vancouver). I am stonished how a manager would be able to prevent you from getting paid if you decide to change your job. I followed up several times, but I realized that he doesn't want to pass my last hourly report to the head office. it's not acceptable during this era where every employer considers the long term effects of how they treat their employees. Staples owes me.
I worked with the best team, amazing management and coworkers. Made the busy days feel less overwhelming when there is a team like them working with you. The job itself, the clientele, not the best.
Meeting thousands of clients a day and feeling like a zombie at the end
I got a job at Staples while still in high school. It gave me a great first experience in customer service, printing, and dealing with customers. It was a great first job.
