Working with staples is an add to your resume and experience as it is a big company to start with in Canada. I have learnt alot from the team. We are like brothers and sister and everyone one is helping the other to understand the whole process. It is my pleasure to work there.
This company is owned by private equity and has gone through many changes in the past couple of years including all management. Hours are long. Start around 8. Finish when the job is done. Currently going through a transformation which is exciting.
As a sales and aisles associate, my job was to ensure to sell and guide the products to the customers. I also ensured that there was always enough stock for customers to receive and I made sure that the flow of the staples business depot was operated smoothly.

Great starting salary and job culture. However, most promotions happen after a minimum of 6-7 years in the specialist role. A lot is expected initially but can be attained through their training programs that last 2 weeks and assortment of options for help.
Time needed for growth
At head office its a few managers who do little and lots of "specialists" who have been in the role for 10 plus years and do most of the actual work. High expectations, low salaries, terrible raises.
A typical day will involve working with people from various departments on a diverse number of projects. I learned from every aspects of the role, from co-workers and managers. Everyone works as a team and is willing to help with anything.
Company culture, great people
Exciting challenges and supportive workplace. Many years in retail and other work but this was the most rewarding and enjoyable.
I started as an 'older' associate in the office. It was both challenging and rewarding with team support and encouragement. Opportunities to try new things and support to get there. Fun times with a professional approach. Lots of efforts to maintain good morale and offer training and development. Willing to try to do new things with a well educated or experienced management team.
lunch room and work out area, Pleasant environment
Leaving. Wish I had not left
Staples sells supplies, office machines, promotional products, furniture, technology, and business services both in stores and online
Engaged clientele with a friendly and professional demeanor and resolved concerns in a diplomatic and tactful manner. Followed all correct cash register operations, as well as maintaining integrity while entering services into the cash register.
It is a great company to work for. Great benefits, good hours and a great management team. Hard to advance though, since many of the managers have been here long term and are comfortable in their positions. Usually only opportunity for advancement is when someone quits / they expand departments. Overall, not a bad experience. Happy to work here.
Engage clientele with a friendly professional demeanor as they entered the store. As a lead in the service department, I ensured customer satisfaction while processing purchases and resolved customer concerns through returns and exchanges. Provided guidance, motivation, and assisted in training and development of new associates while ensuring that tasks were performed with high standards of quality. One of the most memorable experiences that I learned was how to be oblivious to distractions while multi-tasking. Management was a team group effort and we had each others back during challenging times. Co-workers were diverse in both values and beliefs, which brought to our team intellectual diversity The hardest part of the job was when unhappy customers would leave the store, knowing you had done your best to satisfy their needs. That being said, the most gratifying is when we would solve their concern or issues that lead to loyal clientele following.
standing long hours
I worked here on a co-op work term in the category management division and had a wonderful time while I was here. I learned a lot and met numerous great people. Many of the people you meet have a positive outlook and attitude during the day, while others not so much. The most exciting part of my job was seeing the impact I had with my actions.
In-house gym and cafeteria, great management, strong training
Some co-workers with negative attitudes, some ambiguity in terms of what you should be doing
During my time at Staples I learned a lot about costumer service and also developed skills in the copy and print center. The hardest part about working there was the management staff was not very enjoyable to work with at times and were rarely accommodating to their employees.
With 350 Stores across Canada and approximately 8,000 Corporate Customers purchasing from each of their Retail Stores across Canada, Staples Canada decided to create a Pilot Project of 3 Stores, that were retrofitted with Sales and Technical offices to proactively sell to IT Hardware/Software and IT Services to Corporate Customers in the geographical of the Retail Stores. Each Sales and Technical Office in the Store consisted of 1 Sales Manager, 2 Account Managers and 1 Senior Technician. Within the first Quarter, we exceeded the Sales Quota by 200%. Due to the success of the 3 Pilot Stores, the program was extended across Canada.
Had the opportunity of managing some very talented staff.
The division ended up closing after 3 years
