Staples is an enigma when it comes to a workplace. You will 99% have great coworkers but management will be lacking. A bunch of suits who focus on more money then your lively hood. They care about the store stature and cleanliness but will lack staff and will reprimand you fail to complete these tasks. Its all about results, but the way they go to achieve these results are far from the norm.
HR won't even talk to you until they have a copy of an up-to-date Driver's Abstract, which is immediately asking for private/personal information before you even have your first chance to ask questions about whether or not you're even interested in the position. Look elsewhere.
HR, Management, Low Wages, Long Hours
Regardless of how young and fit you are, or how much time you have, don't believe HR when they tell you that you'll only be working 8-hour shifts. Theirs a reason they ask you if you have flexible hours between 6am and 6pm. Unless theirs unforeseen circumstances, you don't return to the depot until your truck is empty, which on average is anywhere between 9-1/2 to 11 hours per day. Add bad weather into the mix and kiss your life goodbye. 50~ish stops per day, which is ridiculous for the amount of heavy lifting involved; manly boxes of paper, sometimes office furniture. Zero work/life balance, except for having weekends off. Starting wage of $17 an hour. Horrible pay and increase structure. Anything less than $20 an hour is less than a living wage. If you're young and naive, knock yourself out. If you're over 25 or have a family, look elsewhere.
Pay, Long-Hours, No Work/Life Balance
It's slowing moving at times and then super busy the next. It's important to be collaborative with other associates, know who is working with you because each associate in relies on the other. It's also important to be able to multitask at times since sometimes you can get cornered up by many customers at once (as a cashier). For, example, you will have an online order and at the same time, there would be a customer you have to cash out. So, while waiting for the manager to get the online order you can cash the customer out. I think that one of the most enjoyable parts about it is that all the associates are friendly, easy-going and relaxed so t makes the job more fun.

it was a co-op placement and i did data wipes and the occasional troubleshooting and spent the rest of my time doing sales and stocking. i learned a lot about troubleshooting and sales, management was very forgiving and all my co-workers were friendly. hardest part of the job is sales because of the knowledge required, and the best part is learning IT
Being a sales associate at staples, your day would consist of, reviewing your previous sales results, making a goal of the present day sales, assist customers and constantly up-sell. Staples teaches you how to be confident and natural with customers, to be able to get to the point and show them what their looking for in little time.
Fun work environment
Not very organized
No day is the same, I am learning so much about interacting with people and the day to day challenges of a business. Co workers are easily the best part of the job, I enjoy seeing them each and everyday. Hardest part of the job is dealing with the bureaucracy and unreasonable expectations on everyone.
Staples is a fun place to work where i've always felt very welcome. It is one of my first jobs and over the years they've really helped my gain the knowledge and understanding that i needed in order to maintain and enjoy my part-time job. My coworkers and management team have allowed me to express myself and grow as a person well gaining confidence in today's society. Staples does push sales numbers on us but they give us the support we need to achieve them. Staples is overall a decent place to work.
support, christmas dinner, uniform, store hours
location, needs more cash workers
I would walk in and everyone was a smile on their faces. I would work on the floor, not having anything to worry about because I have my coworkers with me helping me learn new skills and experiences. The hardest part in that job would learning about new floor plans or new inventory.
