They have this odd hierarchy system which is incredibly ridiculous. Though they support the whole “healthy lifestyle overall”, their management skills make a lot of new employees becomes stressed to the point of being mentally uncomfortable. Maybe it’s just this location but I doubt it
Absolutely love this job and the people I work with, location is great and everyone is fun and kind. I dislike the pay and lack of raises, but all in all it is a good environment, however head office needs to solve a stock issue that's been going on for about a year now.
On the showroom floor the staff are all terrific. Co-workers were always ready to help when needed and constantly friendly. Managers were generally good and helpful as well. Upper management has been better. Certain decisions have not been good and ultimately hinder the experience.
Friendly and enjoyable job. Always some work to be done like clean, stock up, put returns away, answering phones and communicating with customers who need help. Great management and communication towards the employees.

Definitely a good place to start and the job itself can be fun at times. Unfortunately, in my experience working here I have been made to feel stressed, intimidated, and small. The store manager and occasionally the department managers treat their employees like dirt. The store manager purposely tries to intimidate and manipulate you. He sometimes uses inappropriate language and often writes passive aggressive notes on the white board at work to intimidate employees. It’s a gross abuse of authority. The back rooms are also sky high with boxes falling over and they have previosuly used a disibility changing stall as storage space. It doesn’t seem very safe at all. Not to mention the blocked fire exits. Stay away unless you’re fine with being treated like dirt (esp if you’re a female employee) and you care about your safety.
A typical day at work consisted of a list of things to do for your department in a day, so you always had something to do. Management in my department (hard goods) was pretty laid back and took the time to teach me what I needed to know. I learned how to sharpen skates, fix bikes, and how to organize/change out different promotions within the store and my department. The hardest part of the job would probably be the tedious work needed in the back of the department with unboxing things and organizing them in the back. The most enjoyable part of the job would be the relationships built amongst me and other employees.
A typical day at Sport Chek would be helping customers find the shoe they need, whether it be for running or casual wear. Working in the footwear department provides you experience in the retail business as well as experience in customer service during busy times as events that sport chek provides creates a busy atmosphere where people customer service skills are constantly tested.
The management is well put together, everyone is very friendly. It's a diverse workplace. The most enjoyable part of the job would be the people you're working with. The hardest part of the job would, maybe, be boxing day; other than that, it's a great place to work.

offered me a part time position after being hired on as seasonal but told me that I was originally hired as part time. Only give shifts to the people they favorite and talk about other employees behind there back. Including managers.
8 hour shift gives you 1 paid 15 minute break and unpaid half an hour
I've worked at two locations and saw two very different lifestyles. The larger store I worked at was amazing. Understaffed is always an issue however but that's remained constant wherever I go. Below are a few issues that have come up that you will likely see if you work here. I'm not doing this to shame the company but management is accountable. There is an issue with management, the role is usually given to those who are simply there most of the time (open availability) regardless of how mature or ready they are. Many of my managers were simply too young, naïve and immature to provide any form of leadership. ALSO DO NOT EXPECT MANAGERS TO EVER HAVE YOUR BACK. GIVEN THE OPPURTUINTY THEY WILL ALWAYS SIDE WITH THE CUSTOMER EVEN IF YOUR TRYING TO ENFORCE POLICY. One example is we have a 60 day return policy (must have tags/receipts etc). 5 years later? No receipt? No tags? No proof that the item even comes from Sportchek? Want the refund in cash? Seems suspicious and I calmly explain to the customer the policies. Customer gets irate and asks for the manager. General Manager comes down, I explain the situation and the manager says "Its ok." Customer looks at you like they bested you. Wonderful feeling Another issue is shifts given. We're all asked to keep a good availability and that if you want a specific day off it should be booked more than three weeks in advance (makes sense). This is because we're promised to be given the weeks schedule 2-3 weeks in advance. This never happens, and the average is usually 1-2 days. With scheduling, there is a heavy favouritism given - plus...
Great place to work, very accommodating for students. Great managers and fun coworkers. Everyone who works there is kind and hardworking. Days can be slow or fast paced depending on the time or day of the week.
Working at sport chek was pretty fun because the team was so large in each department that you got to get to know a lot of cool people. It was also a good mix of busy with the sometimes slow days.
When I started at sport chek it was okay I was getting hours and was being paid over 15$ and hour. I have had 3 store managers now since I’ve been there in the past 2 years it’s very disorganized and we still don’t have a manager for cash. My pay has been cut twice without my knowledge or consent and I’m now being paid 14$ an hour. My hours also cut most shifts are 5 and a half hours with and unpaid 30 min break. I don’t make enough money tf or driving to work even be worth my time
Depending on who your coworkers are and how willing they are to do their job can really change the mood for the whole shift. we are severly understaffed and our hours are being cut so the store can never be fully cleaned. and many people don't care about their job because it is minimum wage and most of the managers don't care if you do your job or not
