It was okay working here. It's an entry level job. You learn a bunch. You have some nasty co-workers who expect you to know stuff when you're new and don't try to teach you. However, I've had a few good coworkers who were fun to work with. Managers are okay. They mostly yell at you if you have no work to do. It's a good job if you want job experience. Just know you're expected to work hard at minimum wage. Discounts are pretty good.
Coworkers, management, stressful
there is a grat discount which is why many people stay. At the store i work at tho there is not alot of hours for the workers so some people work once a month even with open availability. also they only do schedules one week at a time which does not leave time to plan activities ahead.

Friendly environment. The major part of the job is always ensuring customers are happy and satisfied. Employees get along incredibly well even under times of high pressure. Managers are understanding, kind, and most importantly make sure you're doing your job well. They will give advice on where to improve whenever they see somewhere you can. Employees have a lot of respect for their managers. Management is incredibly organized. Coworkers and managers give off the impression that they actually enjoy their job and helping people, which is essential in retail but not often seen to the degree that I've seen it at this company. Lots of face-to-face customer service. Very good job to build customer experience both face-to-face and on the phone. Here your job is to find customers to help and make sure they are satisfied. Only retail job I've had where I end the shift on a high note happy that I helped people that day.
Friendly staff, positive environment, employee discount, feel-good job
As a cashier, I was in charge of all transactions that involved store merchandise. I also directed phone calls and took on a minor customer service role when faced with an unhappy customer. This position allowed me to understand the handling of cash and large transactions, whether they were purchases or returns.
I have been working at Sportchek for a few months now and I absolutely love it! All of my managers are extremely understanding and they make sure tasks are done on time and efficiently but, make the experience positive and welcoming. My coworkers are now some of my good friends and the environment overall at Sportchek is extremely positive and non stressful.
Amazing managers and coworkers
Only receive breaks after 5.5 hours
I work with great people I have very approachable and supportive managers I have grown as an individual through working there My work ethic has flourished I have been recognized for my achievements Although I don't feel I get paid fairly That being said, I never look for a job based solely off the wage, I need to be surrounded with positive people as well. Being with the company for so long I feel very appreciative to have had the opportunity to learn so much and money could never change that.
Good atmosphere (people and vibe), fun discount
Unfair wages, short breaks
Managers are rarely on the same page. Great work environment with people around the same age working. The job itself is simple with decent training before you start. The discount is cost of the item plus 10%, but is capped at $2000 for part time, $4000 for full time.
Discount, flexible hours
Not a lot of hours available, management issues
A typical day at work involves dealing with customers through giving great customer service. I learned a lot about customer service and how to work well with others as well on my own. I've also acquired the skill of being a fast learner as systems and policies change and how to handle them.
The management at the St. Albert location is rude, impatient and ignorant. Not just towards employees, but customers as well. It is a very negative and unprofessional environment to work in.
Sportchek is a great job to have if you're in school and young and need your first job. They have great wages and even come with great benefit package if you're fulltime employed. You meet a lot of people, and get great work ethic.
Wages, benefits, lunches, uniform
Fun place to work if you are young, pay was worth it. If you are a good worker they will give you the hours you ask for. Flagship store with a lot of standards to maintain, so don't recommend if you plan on doing nothing as there is always something to do. Management could be better, they mostly do nothing but stand there and tell the full timers to make sure you are doing something. Discount is great, not for launch items though.
Fun work environment
Management does nothing but stand around
Working at sportchek has been a great experience, overall, a typical day at work is a busy, overwhelming day with loads of work. Management was full of friendly, caring people. Hardest part about working at sportchek has been the daily cashouts and store openings, with the responsibility of counting the tills, deposits, and safe, but on the other hand the most enjoyable part has been the opportunity to work with friendly, amazing people i can now call my friends.
lack of hours, low pays
