Individual department managers were typically great. The store manager on the other hand was not. Repeatedly expected to complete multiple tasks with not enough resources. General manager was never out helping the staff and was so hard on employees they were even affraid to so much as call in sick, even if extremely ill. After I quit the job, the general manager along with many other problematic staff were fired.
10/10 would recommend to friends, family & Strangers alike as it was unreal how family oriented a retail store could be but sportchek made me feel at home right away and had excellent procedures in place to insure rightful advancement.
Discounts, Lunch room, awesome co workers
It’s a super laid back and easy job but the management is awful. They’re extremely unprofessional, blatantly showed favouritism and were extremely passive aggressive. Instead of telling you you’re doing something wrong they just won’t give you shifts. It’s also next to impossible to move up in the company. I’ve been working at sportchek for 3.5 years and in that time my wage has only gone up by 50 cents. My discount and coworkers are the only redeeming qualites.

culture has changed over time and employees are no longer valued accordingly particular location where safe work procedures are ignored by management in order to maintain sale goals becoming a company that tries to push product without regard for customers
If you’re interested in the retail route there’s no reason why to not apply for the position! Lots of staff so you’re bound to make some friends, however, if you’re looking for money this may not be the best choice.. it’s typically minimum wage ( there are raises if earned) but no commission which really sucks. ** discount is amazing** part time job 100% recommend, full time job.. I recommend you try serving instead and at least make tips!
Tons of staff, great discount
Money isn’t great
They are always willing to work around your schedule however they require certain amount of hours per week. They expect you to know a lot and remember the minimum amount of training they give you. They do support you when a customer is aggressive towards you.

Like any retail job you will have the busy days and the really slow days. Luckily at Sportchek there is always something to do to keep you busy, whether that's tasks to maintain the store or further training opportunities. It is also a very friendly environment from co workers to management
Unsteady hours for part time employees
A typical day at work would consist of completing many tasks while also staying available to the customers demands and needs. these various tasks include re-stocking product on display, general maintenance of the department and a selection of nightly assigned cleaning duties such as sweeping and or changing the garbage's in the department
flexible hours, stress free environment
Help customers get sized up for shoes, open up fitting rooms, give people knowledge about our products and our return/exchange policy. Learned about shoes and the different types, learned about clothing and the different material each is used for, learned how to properly size for shoes and learning about all the products you have to deal with. Co-workers make the workplace enjoyable. Management could be better.
Management could be better
Sportchek is a fun place to work if you have a love for a healthy and active lifestyle. The training on products is very well done, and once you learn about the products, it really makes you wonder why you ever shopped elsewhere. The only issues I had were with certain unqualified management members, and the hourly wage wasn't enough in comparison to work required when I started receiving more responsibilities. I really enjoyed the conversations with customers about what kinds of things they were getting into, or were already passionate about. It's interesting to see that there is so much going on even in our little communities. Canadian Tire/ Sportchek donates very generously to Jumpstart which helps get kids into sports, and being a part of a company that makes a difference in my community is great!
Great co workers and products
low pay, lots of duties
