The work wasn't the problem, the work was actually very fun. I used to pick up all the shifts I can just because I enjoyed the experience. The troubling part was dealing with a bunch of unprofessional unfair managers who power trip on you all day just to feel better about their miserable lives. They favour certain people over others. It's hard to make them feel smart and important because most of them are actually stupid and insignificant. Say goodbye to your hours if you accidentally rub off one of them the wrong way. The general manager was also racist and treated people of colour as secondary employees. You gotta act as a "model minority" if you are a minority employee or else you're not getting any hours. Even if you put in the most work you're still considered secondary. Overall the treatment from most managers was horrific, unfair and unprofessional. Again it's a fun place to work with great discounts, but for your health and sanity, don't work here.
Managers all seem lost and the general manager was very rude and disrespectful. They don't care if you are a student, you get hired as part time but they schedule you full time hours. If you say you can't work those hours they get angry. The training is horrendous you spend 4 days on a computer then are somehow are expected to know what to do on the floor on your own. I would not suggest working for this unprofessional company unless it's your last option.
the people that you work with are absolutely amazing and I definitely didn’t expect to feel that welcomed so quick but it was such a nice transition! Customers are super great there and everyone feels like family!!
Go in with a positive attitude and you will see just how easy sales can be. A wonderfully operated company hence the size of it. What ever department you end up being a part of just take some time to ensure the foundation of your knowledge is there and then talking to customers is that much easier.

Very poor management, they are very hypocritical and rude. I loved working there though, the people I worked with made it bearable and we were like a little family. The hardest part of the job would have to be the customers because if they're having a bad day they take it out on you.
Im a university student and working at sportchek is great. Really great for during school as they are very understanding about school work and your availability. Stress free environment which is perfect during university life. I will say however there is not a lot of opportunity of advancement, been in the same position for a year now and dont really see a future at the company unless in corporate but not sure i can make my way there without applying for a corporate position.
As a cashier, I was in charge of all transactions that involved store merchandise. I also directed phone calls and took on a minor customer service role when faced with an unhappy customer. This position allowed me to understand the handling of cash and large transactions, whether they were purchases or returns.
I have been working at Sportchek for a few months now and I absolutely love it! All of my managers are extremely understanding and they make sure tasks are done on time and efficiently but, make the experience positive and welcoming. My coworkers are now some of my good friends and the environment overall at Sportchek is extremely positive and non stressful.
Amazing managers and coworkers
Only receive breaks after 5.5 hours
Place was always clean, work was well distributed between all the employees. Turns were taken to clean things up. work load was balanced. management ( only some ) was not that great.

sport chek was my first job and was able to provide me with employment in high school as well as college by allowing me to transfer stores when I moved to Ottawa. Overall Sport Chek has been a great opportunity and has supported me.
able to transfer stores and friendly atmosphere
low pay and salary does not increase with minimum wage to keep raises
great place to work. fun atmosphere. great skill building with customer service and sales. could be better with hourly wage to match the pressure put on sales associates to reach sales goals, especially since there is no longer commission.
- Management is not professional. Managers favor certain workers and put others down - The entire atmosphere is depressing (I've worked at 2 stores and they're the same) - The job becomes very repetitive - The pay is average - Good amount of hours given
Dynamic workplace requiring technical knowledge and excellent customer relation skills within the sporting good and active lifestyl worlds.
I was the department manager for the sporting goods section, tasked with training and developing a team of over 20 sales staff, ensuring inventory integrity, dealing with technical customer relation experiences, merchandising, and other requirements that occur in a fast-passed work environment. I had the opportunity to create an immediate direct positive influence in all of my customers sporting and personal lives, which provided me with the unique experience of developing a substantial return customer basis, and allowed me to provide an elite level of technical knowledge and experience for each and every customer. I have also had the unique opportunity of aiding in various volunteer events, facilitating underprivileged youth with sporting equipment, and a means to stay healthy and active.

Lag in responsiveness from head office due to a corporate approach
Everyday doing stock, keeping up with sales, talking to customers in an open ended manner, I constantly learn, doing research on my own and doing courses with in Sportchek that is required. Management is awesome they treat you like family which I love you can be completely open with them. My co workers range from all sorts of different persons, all in all they are like family too. Hardest part of my job is doing long hours going to bed late then waking up bright and early, but completely do able. Its apart of life especially at a young age! Most enjoyable part of my job is talking to customers and meeting new people, being able to talk to them about my personal experiences and hearing about theirs.
Snow-sports camps, fun games for morning huddles, redbull girls visitng us and giving us all free redbulls during christmas hours
Long sparatic hours, unreliable hours due to last years sales shifted to that.
A typical day at work for me would include a lot of team work with the other staff members, trying to make the customers' experience as easy and enjoyable as possible. Over the past three years, I've learned so much from this company but I think what stands out the most is how I've learned to handle customers who may have been dissatisfied and trying to help in the situation as best as I can. This is also the hardest part of my job. I truly believe the most enjoyable part of my job is the fact that all of our staff members get along really well. We try to keep each other happy so that we can keep the customers happy.
