Working at Sportchek is an awesome experience. Make friends that share the same passion as you. Gained lots of retail skills which is very useful. Management is a good balance of fun but also getting work done.

Sport chek is a great place to make friends and gain good customer service experience. The only down side to working in my location is that the managers are not the best. It isn’t specific things it’s just how they operate doesn’t work for most people who work there.
Having been in nearly every position in two different stores, I will try to give a general outline as to what to expect. Keep in mind, however, that the experience will differ depending on the location. I look forward every morning to going to work (weird right?) for a number of reasons. I'm lucky that I enjoy doing what I do, but the main selling point of the job to me is the people I get to work with. They are typically like minded individuals who consider each other more as friends than coworkers. Depending on the location of course, it's amazing how close everyone gets to each other and how well everyone agrees while still maintaining some productivity. Typically the management is no different, and sometimes its hard to differentiate between management and associate by behavior alone as they fit right in the mix. This has lead to some weaker management in my experience but there is potential for the right balance to be found. I wouldn't say any particular aspect of the job stick out as exceptionally difficult, but I will express that one must be ready to deal with some less than civil customers from time to time. In my opinion however the good customers far overshadow and outnumber the bad. Working in the company has taught me much as far as product knowledge is concerned, but more about customer service, human interaction, communication, leadership, and problem solving. To conclude, I think Sport Chek has a place for everyone from the young person interested in a first job to the experienced manager looking to advance in a company.
great people, easy work, fun interactions, learning
sporadic scheduling for full time, low pay
Management turnover is high, so things are always changing. There is no consistency with expectations and often the objectives of different managers conflict with one another, which creates a lot of confusion among staff. Managmenet strategies and objectives are often pooly implemented and make little sense, and usually create more problems than they solve. Staff are mostly high school age students, which can be both good and bad at times.

It's a typical retail job where customers can either make or break your day. Some days are extremely slow, while others you can't even breathe it's so busy. The management is okay, and the work hours are relatively flexible. But the stress from customers can get to you.
Short lunch break, way too busy
there is a grat discount which is why many people stay. At the store i work at tho there is not alot of hours for the workers so some people work once a month even with open availability. also they only do schedules one week at a time which does not leave time to plan activities ahead.
Working at Sportchek can be a fun experience, but it can also be fairly awful. It really depends on the management team. In some cases they cannot handle the stress of running a large store and can take it out on part time staff.
good if you're in school because they don't care if you only work once a week or not at all. been working at the same location for two years on and off full time & part-time. No room for advancement, also no raises. I've noticed the only time I've received raises is a couple months before minimum wage is set to go up and then minimum wage passes what I previously made anyway.
Everyone there was great to work for and work with but I don't know about the benefits because I was only temp. My job was in the stock room for Christmas, opening shipments and sorting them for the next step. The people in the back were great and the work was easy to do but not easy on my body. It would be a great job for someone who is young and fit enough to reach boxes down and carry them around.
Friendly people, involved manager, they are a member of a huge 'family' of other stores
I don't really know because I was only seasonal
Great coworkers, I worked in the footwear department and some days would be super busy rush days while other days could be quiet with maybe 4 customers coming in on your shift.
not enough hours or high pay
I've been working for Sportchek for two years now and I've worked at multiple locations. Every location has been a great place to work, because the staff are incredibly nice and knowledgeable. The draw backs are the pay as well as management. Management just doesn't seem to care about staff.
every morning the co-workers would get together and have a game of hockey before we open the doors. it was a great way to start the day and get everyone hyped.
